Xuperman Powerplay-x: A Rubber by Xu Xin

first impressions.... so far i love it

i would describe it as an easier to use B2BS

looping in general is great, maybe even better than B2BS

actually now that ive said it, i felt that the differences between powerplay x and B2BS is minor

but i do prefer powerplay x more

so far i havent run into the backspin issue ppl have mentioned here, i thought that its great actually

Sounds great! What is roughly your rubber's cut weight? You got 40 or 41deg?

i forgot to weigh the rubber but it really did balance out my stiga mantra pro h's 50g cut

so i would roughly estimate 52-54g cut bc it feels slightly heavier than the mantra pro

40 degrees bc 41 is out of stock

41 deg of the non pro Powerplay was at 73g with foil, so about 71g without foil. Cut to the Inspira Plus blade which is a slightly larger head viscaria with 4 layers of glue and 2 layer of booster it's 56-7g? So without the glue around 54g, without booster maybe 52g. These are approx numbers.

Anyway I am 100% sure the Powerplay-X and the Volant-Phoenix are both made by Double Fish, they 100% have the same sponge. Identical color, thickness, smell is the sameish. Other giveavay is the packaging foil. Volant-Phoenix and the Powerplay have the same packaging foil, even the breathing hole is in the same location...

That being said the topsheets are very different. The Powerplay seems to have a thicker topsheet since the pips under it are not visible, while on the VP they are visible. The VP topsheet feels harder, it doesn't eat the ball as well and seems not so elastic. The Powerplay is more supple and stretches more and I think it makes more spin.
VP might have an edge in speed over the Powerplay.
VP also has an edge in weight over the Powerplay, the VP uncut is about 66-67g, so about 10% lighter and I'm sure that comes from the topsheet since I measured 41vs41 degree of both.

With a light BH rubber I think probably the Powerplay is a better choice. If one has a 90g blade, 50g BH rubber and 55g Powerplay and 3-4g glue one is kissing the 200g. I have a 89g Inspira plus, 45-6g Glayzer and this 56-57g Powerplay and I'm at 192g which for me is still acceptable but it's thanks to that I got a lighter Inspira plus since my original one is 91-92g, and Glayzer is 45gish.

Excellent performance from the rubber but heavy.

i cant feel the double-fishiness in xuperman but u might be right

i still prefer xuperman over VP, i really dont care about speed, the ease of generating spin matters more

OTOH i prefer DHS (prov orange sponge, even) over xuperman................. 😋 it all comes in a full circle

I installed a powerplayX 40° on the forehand side of the super viscaria and the first impression was great, with 4 hours of table time. Same arc as the H3, easy to generate spin, easy to lift backspin balls, quality pushes (I didn't notice any difficulty in this aspect). Firm top sheet feel, very powerfull of speed with full moviment. The first test will be without booster, let's see how the evolution will be in the next training sessions.

Could you elaborate more on why you dont prefer powerplayx?

Mine (powerplayxb pro 42) has deteriorated and ready for a new sheet, but I have been considering going to H3 Neo instead...

I use a 1ply kiso hinoki, PP Moby Cpen, similar to @greenbeanmachine so both your guys advice would be greatly appreciated 😄 I'm somewhat tall, 6'2", and have big hands like Xuxin. I try to emulate his playstyle with wang liqin's forehand (as if, haha, but those are my role models for my dream play). Rating is around 1600 currently.

If I get a new sheet of powerplayx, I'll be sure to peovide my review of it. Right now still getting back into TT after a long hiatus and do not feel confident to peovide feedback of my own.

h3 produces better ball quality than powerplay, spinnier too

I also play Cpen and i prefere Powerplay-X over Hurricane. And it's not even close.

Powerplay-X has much softer, more elastic topsheet. It's easier to get the ball on the table with good(but not excellent) quality. Hurricane has better potential both in terms of speed and spin, but it's much harder to use.

I like to play in mid distance, so i need a lot of stability in my rubbers and a lot of power in my blade, so i can loop different balls with confidence. My current setup is working really good. I would never change Powerplay-X for Hurricane, i really don't like how hard and unforgiving it is. But i don't like the feel of tensor/ESN hybrid rubbers, my forehand tecnhique is developed for chinese rubbers. So if you are closer to me in terms of requirements for equipment i can't recomend Hurricane to you. But if you want more hardcore experience - Hurricane is definitely for you.

I think that is not always true. E.g. my training partner has H3 nat BS H39, and the top-sheet is actually softer than my X P-X top-sheet. Also my Rxton 9 rubbers have slightly softer top-sheet than X P-X. That said, I like all 3 very much. Cheers.

For me it was exactly the opposite. I hated rxton 9 because topsheet was hard like a brick. I played with 4 different BS national Hurricanes and tested about 3 on friends rackets and all of them were hard, but not to a rxton 9 levels.

Also maybe powerplay-X in black package has less elasticity, i only played with pro version, which has silver package and is vacuum sealed. Without vacuum sealing i can see the possibility for topsheet to go dry and became brick hard.

But all of my Hurricanes were hard right from the start, so maybe i'm unlucky. But QC of dhs also is deffinetely not the best on the market.

Thank you for the response! I feel the same way using the silver package/pro powerplayx. But I have limited experience with H3, so I needed to come here and ask all the professionals 😉

What blade do you use?
Also, what did you use for boosting powerplayx and how many layers?

I use it on N301 and i don't boost it. I don't feel like I lack any speed or spin, 41 degree powerplay-X without any booster is considerably faster than 40 degree Hurricane BS.

I feel like Powerplay-X plays a bit more like hybrid than true sticky hard rubber, same with Battle 2 Gold which i also like. Boosted with 2 layers of Haifu Yellow 41 degree Hurricane for me felt harder than Powerplay-X 41 without any booster, but i only tried boosted Hurricanes on my friends setups and they felt better than unboosted, but not by a lot. I just don't like how Hurricane plays.

I think if you considering Hurricane just buy commercial version for test, it doesn't cost a lot and then you would know exactly what you want more from your rubber.

I'm not really a traditional fan of chinese rubbers, i like tackiness not because of extreme spin capability, but because of stability properties. I can't feel stability from 09c and other similar rubbers on the forehand, but i also don't feel the confidence in my shots when using Hurricane, so something like Powerplay-X is perfect middleground for me.
