Wild point at 2-1 11-10 of Miwa/Odo vs Cheng I Ching/Huang Yu Jie. Ball hits the edge of HYJ's paddle resulting in a lob that almost spins back to their side of the table. Odo smashes it while also clearly knocking the net assembly and table while the ball was technically still in play. Should be a point against the Japanese pair ending the match. Instead we go to 2-2 now.

And now that missed call costs them the match

Right in front their face too, pretty impressive
probably didn't know such rule exists.
there was 3 missed calls in 1 shot, this must be some record inside the century long history of table tennis.

That umpire should get suspended.
they should also write the whole handbook, word by word 10 times
the players spend hours a day to train
umpires should spend hours a day writing the handbook/rule book

My first music teacher in high school made us write one page for every minute we were late to class as punishment. I was late once and then never again.

Again in game 1 of Dima vs Bardet, table was moved by Bardet at 6:5
2.10.1.9 (moving the playing surface) is not strictly enforced nowadays, whereas 2.10.1.10 (touching the net assembly) and 2.10.1.11 (touching the playing surface) should be.

12 A POINT
12.1 Decision

12.1.1 Each rally that is not a let results in the award of a point and the laws specify the various
reasons for which a point is scored. The decisive stage of a rally is usually that at which the
ball goes out of play and the umpire should beware of making a decision based on what he
or she expects to happen, without allowing for the possibility that the rally may be ended in
some quite different way that may invalidate his or her decision.
12.1.2 For instance, the ball may be returned by a player, well wide of the table, so that it is clear
that it will not touch the opponent’s court; but the rally does not end until the ball goes out
of play and either player may still win the point. If, in these circumstances, the opponent
moves the playing surface while the ball is in play, it is the player who struck the wide return
who wins the point, even though the return was unlikely to be good. The rule regarding
moving the playing surface is more than 50 years old and comes from a time where we had
no rollaway tables; nowadays tables have hinges and a light push or even stamping on the
floor can move the playing surface. Because of this, most umpires do not apply the rule
strictly and it would be impossible to play wheelchair table tennis if “moving the playing
surface” was enforced. Only lifting, permanent shifting, displacement, or intentional shaking
the tabletop should result in the awarding of a point.

12.1.3 Not all points are scored for reasons directly related to play, such as the failure to make a
good service or a good return. For example, if while making a potentially winning hit a player
accidentally touches the playing surface with his or her free hand or moves the table while
the ball is in play, his or her opponent will score a point, whether or not he or she is likely
to be able to make a good return.

Don't care enough to do a deep analysis but seems like Yoshiyama was completely controlling the points with short receives up through game 4, so Hwan Bae started serving half long to long forehand and wide angle backhand to prevent this, Yoshiyama tried a few flips over the table unsuccessfully and then completely fell apart basically.
My take is that Hwan Bae was actually the better player for most of the match and lost game 2 from 9-7 up allowing Yoshiyama to play quality shots. I am a bit disappointed in Yoshiyama's game, it seems he is a player who needs a cosch to play his best as he didn't really make good tactical choices amd adjustments. He played like a one gear player (a worse Togami).

Hamada 0-3 Duda (2) (-3, -9, -8)

Duda overtook A. Lebrun in WR after reaching the QF (1985-90+105=2000) and will now widen the gap this coming Tuesday. Please stop winning... LOL

The slimy behavior continues. So since Uda is #40, how is he ahead of Togami? If this was the discussion, there was never any serious discussion to be had if we were just using the ranking list. Obviously Lebrun was hurt by going through a period of injury (admittedly self inflicted). But if surpassing is all about ranking lists, then we can stop these silly discussions using metrics like quality wins over Chinese and just use the rankings.

Hashimoto makes the semifinals. However she is going to have to beat two teammates to take the trophy unless Xheng performs a miraculous comeback. I suspect Miwa is already a bit too much so it is good to at least defend your seeding and draw placement.
