I don't think he can ever go back to the shape we all want him to be , its been a while and even though it appears otherwise , I believe the national team coaches and physios would have tried their best to get him back to shape ... but for all the politics who would want to lose some body like Zhang Jike at his prime ... also the decision to let his main coach go to the women's team appeared to be a confirmation of the fact that they have given up on ZJK more or less, speaking for myself I have resigned to fact that he will not be back in the shape we want him to be ... so let him enjoy this publicity stuff and make a ton of money for himself ... he is trying to be the Chinese Waldner ...
I wish ZJK would stop these extracurricular nonsense activities and focus on getting back in 100% shape.

You're probably right, which is sad. But wouldn't we all just like to see him make one more run for the big prizes?

Maybe he needs to go to some medical expert outside of China to assess the situation differently.

Agree with you and I for one is very sad for it , it would have been a treat to see two giants of the game , in their best shape both physically and mentally fighting for the big titles, if Zhang Jike were to come back and take the fight to Ma Long, it would have been great for the sports and the viewers alike, kind of like tennis where Nadal and Federer took it to a whole new level which inspired others like Djokovic and Murray to follow , but I guess we are not that lucky and neither is Zhang Jike ...

seeing how the Chinese National team and the sports ministry works , what you propose is a a near impossible proposition ... I am sure if they had made that decision years back , some of the european / american specialists would have been able to help Zhang Jike ... I feel its a mix of politics and I mean from both sides , as well as the sports culture in asian countries where they lose sportsmen to injury just because they can't seem to take the brave decision of taking six months or an year off to solely focus on rehabilitation ... they keep playing and they can never get over it .... I have seen it in India too, there was this whole time when Tendulkar was playing miserably because o his tennis elbow and could not take the decision to take time off, only after he took time off and got surgery he was able to get back to the game in proper shape but he delayed it for the longest time ... and I don't think the situation is all that far off in China ... especially with the recent example of this lunatic being allowed to take draconian measures against people who he convicted in his own brain ... and breaking down a system that has seemed to work for them for decades ... instead of trying to modernize it and taking action against people with a transparent investigation ... the whole "honor" system in asian culture seems to work against them in modern day crises situations ...

... he is trying to be the Chinese Waldner ...
He is zhang jike himself doesnt need to be some one else . But @ttmonster for more information he had injuries even during this t.v show . All he need is rest . But in cnt rest is synonym with retiring

They are nonsense activities from a ZJK and fan standpoint since he first and foremost is the second best chinese table tennis player in history, and he's still ACTIVE! Why not getting him at 100% and then go on promoting TT by showing his amazing skills at the tables. We want to see him play like he can, but he needs time to heal.

Yes, rest might be a synonym to retirement but so be it. This half baked version of ZJK is killing his image.

Agree with u in some points . As i remember his recent interviews he told he likes to be in tt than in entertainment programs . But the injury doesnt let him to be ... so sad . Really i dont want to see zjk retired . Seeing him at the table make me motivated to play . Maybe its strange for u :p .... you are right about promoting but for his fans this t.v shows have a lot of fun

What I meant is that he is doing as much marketing and t.v. shows that waldner was doing to keep up his brand in China ...
In CNT rest is retiring is what I explained earlier , there is a cultural problem , they treat players like resources either you win us medals or make us money ... this happens especially in asian countries where globalization is fairly new and corporate sponsorship comes without proper management from the players/organizations' side .. its sad but it is what it is ... we have seen the same thing happen with our cricket players where players kept on hiding and managing injuries ... but you have to also take into consideration the fact that if Zhang Jike felt so strongly about needing rest and not doing tv shows , he should have put his foot down, I don't see any evidence of that . He is not exactly as agreeable a person like others and has been known to rebel , where is that fire ? At some level he also has given up and is happy with what he has achieved ... I have been a big supporter of him especially because of his individualistic traits in an otherwise socialist country , however I am very disheartened in the way his career has progressed off late ... and you have to be realistic and cannot shift the entire blame to CNT , politics and other factors ... when he achieved success he did so in spite of those same factors so he should also take the responsibility of some of his non performance now ...

It is possible in sports for players to make successful comebacks. It is also rare. Players have to work differently and smarter than they did when they first came up. First, they have to actually recover from tbe injury.

He earned $9 million 2016 on top of being a Grand Slam winner so perhaps he's pretty content with his life as it is.

ZJK always seem to look so darn tired in photos. No sleep and all fun?

Actually he is famous for sleeping every where he wants even an hour before his game vs niwa kok in olympici .but he looks sleepy . In some of his interviews he has told that he couldnt sleep because of pain in his body ...
