Hey guys! The TTD Team's first ever International match is here! A big clash against PingPod! The TTD Team flew out to New York to take on PingPod in an almighty battle in one of their state of the art PingPod's in New York City! PingPod field their female all stars which included former world number 20 Matilda Ekholm!

It was a lot of fun this one:

Wait how did Matilda lose? Thought she as a former pro would have outclassed everyone
Careful with your statement. This may trigger Dan to shut down this site, give up TTD and turn full time pro and join the WTT circuit in the future. Do we wanna see this to happen?

I had assessed that she would win as a 2600 level player... but Beast and Frog are also class players... plus Matilda been coaching too much, which drops you a couple levels vs your former level.

This. She was very rusty. When she played the pro league (and won) she seemed easily over 2600.

Matilda does have an USATT rating and it is around 2500ish based on one match, one tournament. Looking at her playing, she is about 2300-2400 right now.

However, if you look at Tom (the Frog) being top 20 in England/UK and the Beast (supposedly the best male junior player from Netherland), then their USATT rating should be close to 2500-2600. Don't forget top juniors in the Europe really should be right there in the top 20 men of their countries.

So the outcome really is not surprising except that either the beast did get nervous or the beast just threw away the last two games.

I don't see a big difference between the playing levels of the Frog and the Beast. Either could be #1 for the team event.

On another note, the Founder is #3 on that team. His USATT rating appears to be around 2200-2300 now. It probably used to be 2100. I believe he played Adam Bobrow whose USATT rating is about 2100-2200. The founder lost by the narrowest margin. It looks like the founder's back injury (or other types of sport injury) he had in the past is subsiding. I am so happy for the fonder. With him back to working on his game, 2200-2300 seems reasonable, especially his much much improved backhand.

All in all, in the US, any player above 2000 is a great player. And their playing level will fluctuate based on how much they practice. But once you are above 2000, if you can keep up that level pretty easily. However if you do not practice, you can easily drop from 2500 to 2300 level. Or drop from 2300 to 2100 level. But you can still beat the crap out of players under 2000 even in that scenario :) :)
