Ito was the favorite, but I didn't know it was going to be *that* ugly. It was even worse that what Ishikawa has been doing.

The funny thing is that if Ito becomes Japanese #1 as she currently seems to be, does that change the dynamic of the team since she will be the main singles player and it is likely that Hirano or Ishikawa will need to pair up with each other for doubles? Or maybe Hirano and Hayata? Questions without any simple answers any time soon... 2 more years to figure this out....

Yes. I think that this was a good match for ZJK as I think it will help him commit to adapting if he wants to continue. The serving strategy was also clearly incorrect for this opponent. He needs to serve into the wide backhand much more. It was toooooo easy for Harimoto to get the initiative on almost every point. That ZJK didn't play a memorable backhand down the line is also telling - it means Harimoto almost always played down the line first.

The result was expected and harimoto was a hard opponent for a zhang jike who came back recently . As we heard in interviews he told these losing will help him to find his rhythm and I guess he faced a proper opponent for his goal . Im sure no one could have such a pressure on zjk that harimoto did . He should make a lot of things to adaot to the new ball . I hope he gets a lot ftom this lose and play better and better .
