DHS 968 Thread

You know that W968 number 1-3 are player versions, right? There‘s no number 1-3 commercial version. That’s why they start costing a lot more from no 3 and can cost 2.5 to 3 times as much for a no 1 version which in theory are used by the players themselves like Ma Long with W968 or WCQ with Q968. So there definitely was a difference between those no 17 and no 3 versions other than their prices.

I couldn't feel much difference, but I'm not a pro, so maybe I'm not that attuned. I can barely feel a difference between provincial and official either tbh

The codes on player issue blades don't have anything to do with official blade code, the tags on the box aren't even the same.
For example player blade code 968-6 is a version with thicker core (ma long allegedly used or uses this version) but u can still see an official 968;blade with this number.

w968-8 is not a official national version. it is a testing variant of 968. the blade in this pic is pretty old, so I am not sure if that is a real 968-8 or even 968 at all.

Please tell me,, What is a testing variant of 968 ? I have never heard of it ? for that used blade, how much do you think it is ?

Besides, How can you tell if it is a Official national version? and the real W968 ore even 968 ? I dont know much about W968 or Q968. I am thinking about getting an Official national Q968.

This is my understanding, as well. If it's a regular market version "official" 968 the numbers don't matter. A lot of people have tested this theory and they all seem to play the same. However, that being said there's still a general belief that lower numbers are better and sell for more. I've played a 17 and 3 back to back and couldn't tell the difference (same weight n thickness and rubber. There's also auspicious numbers that sell well in china, too
There's a lot of weird myth around these blades. I think DHS purposely complicates everything to try to give them some extra aura. Also, as an aside, I would not recommend buying a player issue blade unless you really know where it came from and have someone important that can vouch for it, cuz there are def fakes

testing variants of 968 are slightly different from the official 968. For example, its wood thickness may be different or the wood selection is different. These variant 968 are still 968 structures but have not been officially released to market by DHS. These variants are usually provided to professional players based on their specific needs or for testing purposes. And usually more expensive than the official w968.


For the pics you shared, the laser cut number on its handle actually looks different from the current w968. But I don't know if that is because DHS did it differently in 2016 or because it is a fake 968.

968 is an expensive blade, so there are a lot of fake blades in Chinese markets. So I would suggest buying from someone you can trust. I got mine from one of the biggest table tennis equipment sellers on Taobao.

yeah taobao can't mail to the US easily so probably not the best choice for you. You can probably check some sellers suggested in this forum that can mail to you directly. Since I never interact with any of those sellers, I wouldn't make a suggestion.

The first person to tell me this was tight with some players in China that had connections with DHS and CNT affiliated people and sold a lot of interesting and rare stuff from DHS. He was a good player and pretty "connected."
He told me lots of things that were proven true about all sorts of things, table tennis and otherwise, so I trust his opinion. The next time I heard it was from a few shop owner, authorized sellers of DHS.
You seem really interested in these, I'm guessing Ur not in Asia or ur in a country where U don't often see them? If U can't find one to hit with, I just say get one if uU have the money. They're fantastic inner carbon blades, but if your expecting it to radically transform ur game or something remember it's just a blade, it's not magical.😄 Half the people I know who tried them still went back to their Butterfly's. If U do get one, strive for the lowest number you can get, so it's easier to sell if you don't want it.. BTW, full disclosure- all the people I mentioned above, STILL sold the lower numbered ones for slightly more money, because that just what people wanted and they're capitalists lol

Thank you for sharing. I live in the U.S. I don't have that much money, I am trying to buy them used, so it is cheaper. One of my friends wants to sell his Used W968-8 for $500, Is it too expensive? It is still expensive for me. I heard that Q968 is more controllable. and i want to get it.

I buy most of the Things on PROTT.VIP. They have this

DHS Official National Q968 for $400. I am not sure how good this blade is.​

Got the S yesterday so not yet tried it but similar weight and a little thicker (6.09mm vs 5.96mm) so will be interesting to see how they play.

I also agree, asked a bunch of sellers in china and they say the same thing. The number's have no effect on the performance.

The commercial version is called Hurricane King wang chuqin
