Lol. A Lebrun has been bulling his little brother all the time while the little one was busy bulling other European players. It's about the time the big brother to do some justice for his little one.

That was the highest level of table tennis play i have seen in a single day of table tennis ever. Alexis was unplayable today.

This version of Alexis is a more complete player than his brother.

The big brother has better shot quality. In the past, he tended to have problem with lots of unforced errors. But, his up-ceiling should be higher than his brother.

Entertaining couple of days watching on ettu.tv. Worthy champions.
What was going on with the service calls though? I mean good to call out serves that are illegal in the umpires opinion but…some of the serves that were called didn’t look to have very much wrong with them at all, and of course some “obviously” dodgy serves get let go. I think I’m with Tony, umpires probably need technological assistance at this level.

No suplementary apparatus needed to enforce a good serve. Just reword formulation of service rule in accordance to the persisting expert promptings. The current formulation does allow tricky serves at the margin of rule , and is rather impossible for umpires to apply properly.
It is time to set the thing right. The new formulation is being now under consideration within ITTF. We really like the core principle that the ball should be struck between the table and server's body.

It is hard to see backward tosses away from the table from the camera perspective shown on most serves, and this was the issue the umpire was faulting her on - it is easier to see backward tosses side on from our perspective, but harder for the umpire to gauge them without having a feeling for the length of the spots on the table. It's also an issue with Bernadette's serve and something she should be faulted on more often, but given how many people reacted to the umpire's calls, we can see why some umpires just don't deal with the hassle.

As a related aside, one of the inspirations of the tournament for me was Duda's high toss reverse pendulum serve, it makes me aspire to be able to do that since reverse pendulum serves are notorious for their backward tosses.

Teams event is separate in ETTU and hosted in alternate years, Sweden hosted and won last year.

Alexis appears to have worked hard on his FH pendulum. It is very consistently short and low now. Previously it tended to drift long a bit too much which allowed his opponents to open up first. Also stopped serving a lot of his other serves like BH or lolipop serves to focus more on FH pendulum with occasional hook serve.

By reducing the amount of serve variation he is also reducing the variation he has to handle from the opponent. This way he can just play his strong 2 wing game to win, which is of course very strong indeed.

Tldr it appears he is relying less on service tricks but more on his overall game.

It is not all about power. Speed is very important too, for eg Harimoto. Felix's topspin rally tempo is way faster than Alexis, and also Felix has better spin variation in serve/receive. When Felix becomes more muscular he will close the power gap fast, but speed is something that is very difficult to improve. Hence, I would place Felix's potential higher even though he lost this time...

Yeah having depth in serve variety is a double edged sword. Sure you keep your opponent off balance, but you also keep yourself from getting into a comfort zone since you have to account for all the spin and positioning variations coming back to you if you're not getting aces outright.

I used to use all sorts of serves (pendulum, hook, backhand, tomahawk) from all different positions. But I found out that just hindered my 3rd ball and rallying consistency. It's also less fun when you play a match where half the points are decided by serve trickery.

The most noticeable improvement here is that Alexis didn't rush his serves as much as he used to, even when he was trailing. Also, his BH was much more consistent, especially in the medium range, which was error-prone.
