This is super tense right now.

Only 19 and huge pressure for Charlotte to win it for her team in front a home crowd.

For Jinnipa, playing against the loudest and most partisan crowd in recent memory.

Both dealing with it admirably well.

IND, PRK, and now FRA. THA is now a TT powerhouse.

Jinnipa: 我是泰國人。/I'm Thai (in Mandarin).

Pavade lost to Suthansini and now Orawan.

I wrote a few years ago over at MyTT (lost forever) that I needed more time to observe and that Pavade could've done better against Asian players. This match is exactly what I meant by that. Same old problem. She got lucky a week or 2 ago when Hirano (who actually led until the endgame in all 3 games) and Ito were fatigued (forget SYB).

Incredible match! Charlotte pulled it to deuce but Jinnipa held on for the win! Charlotte is absolutely crushed, but she did everything she could. Jinnipa needs to work on her footwork as she was flat footed at times. Also, she had trouble with receiving side spin to her BH. But she has a world class BH loop.

Happy for the Thai team. Each girl helped to get a win on the board whereas Yuan carried the French.

Also a nice win for Southeast Asian TT since the Thai women are the sole representative.

Hoping the US women can pull it off vs Germany. USA vs India would be super interesting to watch.
I like the patriotism but it would be very uninteresting. Batra easily gets two wins and I am not sure any of the US girls can beat Akula. I don't see anything preventing an Indian semi unless XSN and either Yan or Kauffman enter phone booths and come out with superpowers.

France losing to Thailand makes it a bit more comfortable for Japan. Pavade beat Hirano in straight games last time they played. Also, if they were to match up in singles, I think Hayata would win, but YJN's hard hitting style would be physically painful for Hayata's injured playing arm.

I somewhat disagree, Thailand has always been a dangerous team and YJN is not going to beat Harimoto. France really lost the match in the doubles, Pavade just had an Olympics to forget. But we both agree that any struggle that Japan has with any team other than China and maybe Korea and Taipei depends more on their having a bad day.

Fun fact. This is not the first time Japan has avoided France after the latter lost prematurely. At WTTC France lost 3-1 to Slovakia, with Ito's Achilles Heel YJN dropping two points. Japan even said they were surprised by the result as they were expecting to meet France. And I'm still left waiting for that Ito-YJN rematch 'til this day 😅

This time it was Pavade who would have been favoured against Hirano who dropped two points. IMO, the pressure of wanting to play well in front of her home crowd got to her. But she will do well once she learns to hone those emotions in.

Congratulations Felix Lebrun! At 17 I think he may be the youngest Olympic table tennis singles medalist ever .. man or woman.

Germany uses QD and TB in doubles and Dima in singles - given they had been prepping a doubles team of PF and DO with QD in singles for a long time, it says something about how they felt about the pecking order and that they don't trust ITTF rankings unfortunately.

South Korea lineup:
SYB/JJH
Lee Eunhye
JJH

Probably looking to potentially score a win against China with their WR1 doubles and also build back JJH's confidence after that brutal singles exit.

Yeah, it is very hard for them to get anything out of singles vs China, so they have to play their best doubles teams and hope to get lucky in at least one singles match. But as far as I remember, this has always been the Korean team in Teams formats, sometimes they had Choi in the JJH slot or SHW in the Lee slot. In LA, they will probably have Kim or Joo in the Lee slot, but whether they get a good replacement for JJH is an open question.

I thought they might have been encouraged to place Shin in the ace position after her singles performance. Before that none of the Korean girls had outstanding singles results, but Shin is clearly their best player now.

They can but it doesn't change anything and it ruins the team dynamics. It will be interesting to see whether they can develop another good doubles combination to free her up because Shin is also their best doubles player.

C. Kallberg is really becoming a power house for Sweden, I would never have believed it if you told me that HK wouldn't win that doubles match easily. HK only managed to win the 3rd game at 9 and still have to win two more to restore normalcy.
