Did you really think it was like that?
My instinct was to think the opposite. I thought the celebration matched the achievement - the massive achievement!!
The just beat a very good team (whonwas expected to beat them) from 0-2 down. If they'd easily beaten some minnows there'd have been no real celebration but when you beat the big boys, well then!!! 🎊😁
And they've just put their hands on Silver medals at the Olympics with a shot to go for gold 😳
This is what it's all about.
How can you seriously take a shit on this???
I take issue with celebrations in front of the losing team. They’ve already experienced enough misery, none more so than Harimoto. This was a massive result by sweden but the celebration could’ve been chilled out

But then they can't celebrate until the other team have left the arena, but Japan stayed to applaud their fans too and I don't think they minded. I can't imagine Harimoto would have been too chilled if he'd won the last 2 points V Kallberg!
Personally I think it's fine, there's no bad blood or even the slightest hint of animosity between the teams, I think we can rely on Japan to be graceful losers and just witness the Olympics spirit from another view.
Fact: Did you know that actually, the Olympics is all about losing?

Although Tomo should have won as ace player, I don't think he is solely responsible for the loss. After all, he did take down Sweden's ace player. Neither of his teammates could take a singles. Shinozuka seemed a bit nervous, and Togami cannot adjust. And Kallberg is dangerous when he is on. Tomo's progression is fine IMHO. It's the other guys that need to step up.

In theory, Togami shoulders the biggest blame given the ranking difference between him and Karlsson but we also know Karlsson is underrated because he worked more on XD and MD and didn't really care about his singles ranking for Olympics since he wasn't playing. But my point is that Japan had a team loss and everyone contributed so it is hard to point fingers. Ultimately it was just a great match. Maybe there will be some regrets about Shinozuka over Matsushima but that is all theoretical.

I do think Harimoto needed to take a bit more risk and stop relying on short pushes so much but it is what it is. He has time to boost Hurricane now lol...

I can only wonder what went through Togami's head when he looked at Harimoto kneeling on the ground in agony. Tasei must have emphasized the pivotal role of the third match to him during line-up, they knew Shinozuka can't handle an in-form Truls and anything could happen if it got to the 5th match. And all JPN had was a mindless Togami that fought and cho'ed his stamina off then gave up at the 4th set. Placing Shinozuka against Karlsson is no better, he has the temperament but not enough skill and power.

Harimoto's playing great but it looked like he gave the initiative to both LYJ and Karlsson towards the end. Against FZD things were a little different but losing 3 close matches like this indicates that his style/temperament still isn't enough for the big stage yet.

You mean LYJ and Kallberg. It's all relative, but I agree. While Kallberg played well, Harimoto pushed long too many short but attackable balls IMHO and was caught blocking rather than countering a bit too often as well, possibly a fitness/health issue, but definitely a regression to bad safe habits and old tactics that often leave the match in the hands of the opponent's form. It's definitely part of the growth process and a tough loss. But Kallberg was on fire and his consistency did take the match out of Harimoto's hands to a good extent with some really strong points towards the end. In the end, it is still likely part of a growth process, and after the bronze medal match which is likely against France and which I fully expect Japan to lose, then the next step is WTTC 2025 (and maybe Grand Finals 2024) and we will see whether Harimoto can establish something better in terms of aggression since he only started meaningfully on this forehand path for this Olympics and will still get better at it.

Just woke up to watch the Sweden vs Japan matchup.

Best team match so far and an amazing comeback for Sweden. They deserved it more for having a deeper team.

Feel bad for Harimoto. Tough ask to have to beat both Truls and Kallberg to carry your team. Guy deserves at least a medal in this Olympics. Still has a chance to get one but he needs to get over the disappointment of this loss.

teams is harsh.
you can't always expect your number 1 to carry 2.
the safest bet is always to have a winning doubles (which jpn has), and the remaining 4 singles, to have 2 players that can get min 2, and maybe 3.

match 3 was the problem here. as leaving the pressure to deciding match probably influenced what has happened
another part was luck of draw, if HT had to finish off at M4, maybe the fate would of been different.
so, to sum it up, you need some one else to win singles.... .can't rely on doubles + no1 winning 2 singles all the time.
and as in WTTTC 2022, HT did those 2 singles, but Japan still lost 3-2 to China.

When I said "a lot more help with recovery" I was referring to the fact that most are using the latest designer PEDs.

Most people don't realize that PEDs are used primarily by athletes for recovery from injury and to squeeze in more training volume.

In countries like Russia with state sponsored doping programs, a talent like LYJ would probably be forced to partake (whether he is aware of it or not).

Not saying that he should, just bringing up a sad reality.

Did you know that WADA doesn't test US Athletes during the collegiate season and only during international competitions, but they preserve their right to test athletes from other countries whenever they wish?

I resent the winner for celebrating how they did, especially in front of the distraught Harimoto. They won fair and square but I don’t have to be happy about how they react to winning.
If we would compare this with say a football match. How do football players react for instance in an important match that has gone all the way to the penalties? After the final penalty kick has been saved or scored, it often leaves the losing team in tears and the winning team storming the playing field screaming and dancing ...
