Dang, haven't seen Jha in a while. He bulked up quite a bit. Probably was in the gym for an hour or two...:)
Still don't think he can topple FZD.
He has been banned for a couple of years for missing three seperate doping controls. Claims he's innocent, but he really looks like he's been hitting it quite hard to be honest. A shame for our beautiful sport.

I am aware of that, yes. Still surprised about his "appearence". At first I didn't even recognize him and thought to myself "Who the heck is that?". Perhaps it's also the beard...lol

This is the FIRST TIME China plays another nation in the mens single final, since 2004 in Athen
Maybe, or maybe China won't be in the men's final at all. Anything could happen. Taylor Swift releases a surprise album the night before the semis and boom.

I think she can get an EP together in time just for Fan.

Hayata and FZD clean up. Sun Yingsha, Shin Yubin and Harimoto have small struggles but over come easily. Truls soldiers on.

The next matches are going to be awesome! Truls blew a hole in the draw by beating WCQ. Truls or Omar in the medal rounds - who would have thought that, especially when Omar plays Truls reasonably well. FZD vs Harimoto is going to be boring. Jang vs Hugo, we will see if Mr Imperious retains his form. And finally LYJ vs Felix, can LYJ change the dynamics of that matchup?

Hirano vs Shin is clearly the top for me, but Hayata vs PRK Lady is a close second, as PRK lady has that fighting spirit in her and seems to play better when she is fighting than when the match is level. Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng are getting Polcanova and Cheng I Ching in some order, but I doublt it really makes a difference.

Hayata smiling and I love it because she is winning. Her shots have pop.
Actually, specs wise the Hayata H2 is thicker (5.8mm) than her previous blade which was Gyo En (5.6mm). But the white edge tape she had previously used made the blade look thicker.
Nah watch again it is clear primorac carbon thickness.

Portugal woman player use H2 and you can barely see the white core. When hayata use her forehand serve I can see thick core and I see reglued handle...
And I see her shots have sharp pop

It's difficult to judge the dimensions of equipment when some of these players are holding them.

Hayata is using the same racket case I have and it looks absolutely enormous when she's holding it. She's way smaller than I thought she was.

Similar thing with Hirano holding a ball before she serves. She makes the 40mm ball look like a baseball. Must be a nice ego boost to have a girlfriend with such small hands (apologies for going there).

If you're right and are able to identify the difference between fractions of a millimeter on camera then kudos to you.

WS Remaining Seeds

6 out of 8 remain. I've just noticed that all top 8 seeds and top 8 quarterfinalists are double-inverted players on the women's side. Probably an Olympic history first as 2-3 short pip hitters/choppers would always make it to this round historically. If Han Ying had been healthy this cycle she would have had a good chance of being in the mix.

  1. SUN Yingsha
  2. CHEN Meng
  3. HAYATA Hina
  4. SHIN Yubin
  5. SZOCS Bernadette (Lost to Polcanova in R16)
  6. DIAZ Adriana (Lost to Pyon Son Gyong in R16)
  7. CHENG I-Ching
  8. HIRANO Miu

MS Remaining Seeds

All remaining seeded players through. Maybe on high alert after WCQ's loss. Felix also staved off a 3 game comeback from Ovtcharov. I've noticed a lot of comebacks from 3-0, 3-1 during these games. Maybe it's the Olympic games and everyone is giving their all no matter the score, or also maybe players are just too used to WTT's 5-game format and ease up after winning their third game.

  1. WANG Chuqin (Lost to Truls in R32)
  2. FAN Zhendong
  3. LEBRUN Felix
  4. CALDERANO Hugo
  5. LIN Yun-Ju
  6. HARIMOTO Tomokazu
  7. QIU Dang (Lost to Kirill in R32)
  8. JANG Woojin

Another note is that I really like the change to start from R64 this time. Makes reaching R16 feel more like an achievement and players are more or less completely warmed up after playing at least two matches. Reaching R16 in the last Olympics often meant playing only one match for seeded players and felt a bit anticlimatic if you got knocked out there.

Don't think we talked about this yet.

This Olympics must be one of the best performances for team USA in quite some time, correct? Having two players get to the Round of 16 is a strong performance I'm sure they're proud of.
