This Olympics must be one of the best performances for team USA in quite some time, correct? Having two players get to the Round of 16 is a strong performance I'm sure they're proud of.

Best performance since 2008 where Gao Jun reached R16 and Wang Chen broke records by reaching quarters. But Lily and Kanak's achievements are still worth celebrating because they're both homegrown talent.

First time to reach R16 in both MS (Kanak from Prelim) and WS (Lily from R64), with both players born in the US. Kanak upset CDS and Lily upset Takahashi.

Last time to have two players reach the later rounds were QF (Wang Chen from R32) and R16 (Gao Jun from R64) in WS of Beijing 2008.

Like I said before. Fan Zhendong and Lin Yun-Ju were probably nursing some injuries prior to the Olympics. It is nice to see both playing well and peaking at the right time.

Thus is normal in Olympic games, especially for sports where the host has a favorite. The competitors have either have to find their own living spaces to be more comfortable or fight both the sport and the living conditions to get into medal form. Most well paid and sponsored athletes only stay in the village if they have a reason to.

The rooms for media do not have A/C. So likely the same for umpires and referees.

I'm sure they stay, at the costs of the LOC in hotels with proper beds and have aircon
go around in cars with AC too

Yes,, his best friend, They used to train TT together and after this together they played in the Sweden Nationals doubles together. Don't know the result though.

Liu Shiwen should forever be remembered for breaking the courtesy point tradition.

French crowd absolutely amazing for pushing Polcanova forward after that 0-11 loss. Looks like she had already fallen apart mentally by that point but crowd support kept her going to at least put up a fight.

I think Polcanova also set a new record for Austrian women here. Best Liu Jia ever did was R16 in Rio.
