Apparently after 24 years off I have no clue as to the rating of a player. I thought they were rated lower. I hope this translates into a decent rating in a few weeks at the tournament in Tyler. I have holes in my service/receive game as well as my footwork but we will see.
As long as you can keep the ball on the table one more time than your opponent , nothing else matters![]()

Exactly.Same as golf. If you leave a putt short you will never, ever 0% get it in the hole. At least if you putt long you have a chance, no mater how small of making the putt and scoring well. Sometimes you try to limit the damage not win outright and stay in the game. Taking the long game approach has obvious advantages over the reflexive game. If you have ever played a proficient chopper you know what I mean. Trying to kill the one slightly high return is attractive but if its a 30% winner you should slowly work your opponent out of position, keeping the ball in play till you can find the opening. Table tennis is a pass/fail exercise on each point and you are not graded on creativity on lost points.
Next level I have to admit sometimes I fall out of my regular pattern of third ball attack(and I know this sounds odd) because I enjoy the feel of the ball sinking into the sponge on a hard counter topspin and playing an allround game vs an attack profile and I enjoy it when the exchange goes long regardless of the outcome. However this doesn't always win me the point even if its fun. I guess I need to learn to combine the fun/win.
Don't sweat it Gene, EVERYONE knows Next Level likes to "Put Heavy Topspin on the Ball" to the extent to make Rambo go scramble for cover.
NextLevel has NUTHIN', NUTHIN', as in YOU AIN'T NUTHTIN' on DerEchte when it comes to putting Heavy Topspin on the ball. In fact, DerEchte lives to spin first and ask questions later. Be, I just try to spin because if I do anything else, I will miss the table.
You guys kill me as I have seen you both play in videos and someday hope to get to where you are on serve return and drives. Thanks for your support. Really.
I was probably the absolute WORST my first few sessions trying to learn a short serve. It was so comical, the government had to move in, take over, then quickly classified those vids of it in the best interests for public health. If they had became public like youtube can make stuff public, the entire population in the world would develop severe muscular damage and paralysis from convulsion laughing without end at my epic fail(s) at attempting short serves. I did everything a body could do wrong and found ways to do stuff wrong no one had ever gotten wrong.
Exactly.Same as golf.
Gene, you can be medically or physically challenged...
Yes. The most important loop in the world isn't Ma Long's loop, it is the loop that helps you put your opponent's shot back on the table. It's the fan boys that are obsessed with Ma Long's loop. Experienced players just accept that their technique is what it is and make it better suited to getting more balls on the table with quality as best they can.
