US Open 2018

Someone told me in the next couple years more Chinese coaches will become US citizens thus Kanak might not have a chance even at the National. This is sad... if true.

Kanak is good enough potential wise to beat those coaches in future. It will be better for him to have more competition.

He is playing German Bundesliga 2nd league this year, if he progresses and moves to 1st league next year he will be able to compete with anyone in future US Opens.

Korea uses a divisional system. Here a few plus/minus about such a system

There are basic simplistic advantages to a divisional system.

- You understand who your competition is.
- You play within your division against players who should be within 1-2 levels of your play level
- You have a chance to win if you have a great day
- Many more close matches
- Easy to set a draw and run the tourney
- Easy to assemble all players come match time
- No ratings, so players should be laying to win
- Players have an incentive to perform well each time
- Players should be motivated by pride to improve their level and try to reach the next division

There are also some negatives too this as well
- Who assigns players to a division?
- How can we make it consistent across the nation?
- Players play only in their division and do not play vs players several levels better for experience
- Players play only 1 Singles event, many want more matches
- You can out of the running quickly
- There are no rating points to brag about, just what Division you play in
- You do not feel good by winning a fluke match, you could still be out of tourney next match
- You do not get promoted to next Division by winning 1-2 good matches
- Players will be motivated to improve greatly and stay in their division so they can have best chance to win
- Above aspect makes a pile of players in top end of each division 2-3 levels better than the field
- Average player has ZERO CHANCE to win Division... too many ringers in top end of division
- Players can stay in division by failing to win finals
- Team event gets stacked with ringers. An truly classified average player has no chance to win in team event

Quick analysis: USA would never adapt such a system.

It provides too few matches for singles, there are no ratings points to brag about, no ratings point hunting trophies (USA players seem to demand that), There is no agreed upon way to properly classify and promote players, players can still game the system, players will game the system, there will be so many ringers in top divisions the average layers will not be motivated to play tourneys as they have no realistic chance to compete or win.

Division System can be designed so no gaming.

Division Tournaments - Players can play in events above their division level. Giant or regular RR events can still function the same. Age events can have divisions within.

If a match rating system is inaccurate, it causes players to avoid events, tournaments.

It doesn't matter if the USATT will adopt a division rating system. Another TT association can be formed to operate parallel to them using a Division System to grow the sport. Let the USATT support the National teams and run their 2 big tournaments. That is their real purpose anyway.

A club could have their tournament sanctioned by the USATT rules or the new TT association rules. Which sanction will draw the most players ?

Eugene Wang 11-9, 12-14, 11-13, 9-11, 11-7, 11-1, 12-10 over Reohei Kanoya. Most exciting match I've seen in a long time. Eugene's up there with Koki Niwa as one of the most entertaining players of his generation.
