Congratulations to the Chinese women's team for defending the title. The Japanese team show they are a strong powerhouse ever.

LGL still thinks Hirano is the best overall on the JNT. The CNT should remain vigilant of her despite the circumstances.

If Japan is to win, the only way is for the ITTF to ban that tomahawk serve.
Ding Ning's tomahawk serves were not effective against Mima Ito. That kind of serve didn't win her in that match, but other skills. And Mima Ito is a very respectable opponent regardless her relatively young age.

Just took a look again at the women's QF draw. HKSAR was somehow unfortunate to be drawn into the same half as the CHN team. HKG team might possibly have some chance to go further if be drawn into the different half. Overall its line-up is strong. And Soo Wai Yam Minnie is cute, in look she's the better version of Kasumi Ishikawa... their looks have some similarities :)

CNT lineup is so predictable, isn't it?

Tomo is very likely to play singles only. If Japan meets China, CNT will likely send ML, FZD, XX to be safe and it is almost impossible that XX plays singles only. It is pointless to have two right-handed play doubles when the remaining left-handed was their partner when crowned WTTC doubles champion. Tomo will face either ML or FZD in the 2nd set. If Tomo meets XX, it must be 4th or 5th set; no way 3:1 to China when Tomo beats XX.

As a matter of fact, under the new play system, it is the doubles of the 1st set that Japan has a chance (remember the current WTTC doubles champion XX/FZD lost to Tomo and Yuto Kizukuri twice?). My prediction if China plays Japan: ML/XX-, FZD-Tomo, ML-, China 3:0.

Well it was a massacre as usual in the women's final alas

The Japanese doubles could just grab a set when the Chinese were already up 2-0 and let off the guard a bit.

The Japanese really needed to win that double to hope to put some pressure on the Chinese. Ito Hayata had one win in some recent ITTF open so the JNT chose them despite the fact that victory was reversed in the next open where the Chinese played more seriously and more importantly that left Ishikawa to play two singles whereas in 10 years competing with the Chinese she didn't win a single match against a top player and didnt even get close. Her only decider in 50+ matches was against LI Xiaoxia where she was 2-0 up and then jinxed it.

Ishikawa is good against anyone non Chinese but she just can't beat them. She is too predictable and Chinese are better than her in every aspect of the game. Ito has a few famous wins, and she's even much improved since. I would have let Ishikawa play doubles and tried Ito to play two singles

Anyway it wasn't Ito's day she was too nervous and 80% of the misses were hers in the doubles. Hayata played much better. Ito's backhand is very very strong but her forehand is too weak and too flat. The Chinese keep the ball lower and spinnier than other players and she can't do anything. She missed like 70% of her shots there ! Too bad because the Japanese were 7-5 up in the first set of the doubles and from 7-7 it was 3 smash misses and one net ball... It sucks.

The Chinese domination in women's is just too much. Ding Ning is the current GOAT but I think the next generation will bring even stronger players. Chen Xingtong , Wang Manyu or Sun Yingsha play like men...

I see more potential of an upset in Men's, probably a O.1% chance but for Women's it's only a quantum probability to win

LGL believes the doubles is the one with the highest probability of an upset.

WHY the umpire faulted Xu Xin's serve at 7 all set #2, thus trailed 7-8 at the critical point? Is it a justified call??

Watch smoothly thru Zhangyu TV Android app :) ITTF TV suffered serious lag earlier in women's finals thus I don't want to rely on its service :)

Done. One—nil for CHN. ML/XX remain formidable. KN/JU gave an exciting fight. A good match to watch. XX is superb in double!
