A lot of people will still call it sidespin but I'm convinced it's distinctly different.

In this video you'll see sidespin at 34 seconds in. Then they show corkscrew at 41 seconds.

The difference being side spin curves & reacts off one's rubber. Corkscrew reacts more on the bounce of the table and theoretically would not react to ones rubber because you'd be hitting the ball on the axis. I think it should be noted that it's probably impossible to give an exactly pure corkscrew ball but none the less, one can give versions of it that is really close.

This "Wiggle Wobble" ball that Brett Clarke & company do in this video is another example of corkscrew. They're just doing it in a lobbing situation vs in a serve.

I would say watch Brett Clark at the slow mo point at 1:03. Now imagine he's in a service stance instead. His stroke is kinda like the pendulum swing. That'd be a corkscrew serve.

I played today with heel elevator because of my achilles tendonitis. It worked perfectly, I didn't feel any pain.
So, if anyone feels pain 3-5 cm above his heel, then stop doing sports (If you can. I had an important match), ice it, rest and rise you leg >= chest height. If you have to walk, then use heel elevator and tape. If the pain is continuous and you feel it even without moving, then go to hospital. Steroid injections are forbidden as they can easily cause achilles tendon tearing. If the pain is just slight and occasional, stop playing for 1-2 week, use a tape and elevator after the break and do streching at every training session.
Hope I can help someone with this!

played at the club today. did some games but lost again. Its not that i play horribly bad, but apart from a few good wins, i keep losing recently, even against opponents that i "should" win. I know something is wrong when i don't tchoooooo at all, or when i don't try to come back after losing 1 or 2 sets because i feel it would be too much of an effort.

Its mostly about focus and motivation because i feel reasonably fit even if my form is not peaking. There are ups and downs, and maybe I'm playing too much lately and getting tired a bit ???

Take note of your most common mistakes and before every match read it. It can help a lot!
Some example from my list:
-don't go back
-don't move too early
-after serve let space for backhand loop
-stay low

Magic is real guys, today I have played in a local tournament and in a group stage I was 2:0 up against 1st league player... (currently he is playing in 2nd league playoffs to go back to the 1st league. Over 80% win ratio). I have lost 2:3, so You could say he was just playing around, but he was really angry when he lost 1st and 2nd game, so I don't think that is a case. I just had by far the best performance in my life in the first 2 sets. Unfortunately didn't bring the camera :/

Back was 95% healed, so the first thing I did was bike half an hour to a friend's to go shoot his rifles and bows. The light exercise probably put it back into place. Next week is perhaps tabletennis week, but I'll do a real warmup this time and try not to snap my shit up again...

@OldschoolPenholder like magic in action.

NL, I also like to goof off and play defense.

I would say it would help to consistently open the LP side of the bat, get close to the ball off the bounce with a light grip, then bend the laws of physics / warp time with that sucka.

Michal_Z has a sweet YouTube channel and brings us footage of the Challenger streams...and seems to always post the Chtchetinine videos. Chtchetinine, in case you all didn't know, is the greatest TT player ever. Keep that up Michal_Z! Thanks!

Thank you very much for these kind words :)
I wish I could do better quality though..

Played some TT yesterday....

and locked up my back and induced painful nerve pinch due to a bad stretch on a stroke.

I was in bed for 12 hours and the worst is far over, now my upper middle back is a bit painful, but I have regained many degrees of neck movement and I can actually move without pain. I did some very light stretching and moving my limbs and back to get some nutrient flow.

Hahaa, with this you reminded me something..
I was watching women beach volleyball, when after 10 minutes an wrist injury occured!
Luckily, the doctor says, my wrist will heal within one week ;) ;) ;)

Went to my club today even though it still has no floor covering. One of the supervisors was giving the club owner grief because the new space lacks an accessible restroom. Well, now you know why I don't play as much...

In any case, i had put together a new paddle with my old flame, Big Dipper. I put it on a Kim Jung Hoon blade. I warmed up and played matches with it and my backhand was smoking and my forehand wasn't bad either. I struggled a bit after a while as having to time big swings with a lower margin for error wore me down but it was a good thing for many reasons as I might train my strokes with Big Dipper and play with Karis. Will need to work on the short pushes separately but I got a better idea what I was looking for.

After playing a close match with an LP blocker, I asked him to give me an LP tutorial. So we went through all the pips I had (four, but only one in OX) and he said that since he understands OX the best and it gives the best reversal, I should work with that. So I used the 755 OX I had for the lesson. FL 2 and 3 and Air Upup will wait a while.

He basically explained to me that you have to let the LP work for you. The thing is that if you think of them the same way you think of inverted, you fall into errors. I practiced against his low spin shots for a while and got an idea of what was required. I thanked him and moved on to playing other people. I won all my matches but my rust and the club conditions showed up (as well as my opponent's adaptation to Big Dipper) when one opponent won 3 games out of maybe 10 we played. I usually blank him and I did win 4 games against him that I didn't record including one at love but I realized over time that what I say about Chinese rubber is generally true. The spin is not higher, it is the consistency and control that is, and this rewards people who want to swing hard all the time, including over the table. Perfect for footwork and forehand players. But if you want spin, there are easier options. But if you trust your swing speed and footwork (and I am not known for footwork), it is second to none.

I just got the title of spinniest serves in the club today from a guy who used to be 2100 but had a debilitating accident. Since that is the most important part of my game, I am proud.

Is anyone else besides me worried that this thread could collapse of its own weight to form a black hole that will consume the earth?

It is not as farfetched as you describe. Large threads like this usually push the databases supporting sites like these to their limits.

~6000 posts is not THAT much, plus DB cares more about total number of data (posts) to store and not so much about how many posts are in a single topic (there must be a thread_id in there somewhere...).

I'm more worried about 'kitchen sink' threads becoming incomprehensible: "what exactly were we supposed to discuss here?" and impossible to follow. Still, quite fascinating...

I guess the software has improved - threads like these were often closed by moderators and restarted as fresh threads in the forums I used to belong to in the 2000s.

Yeah. Not so much on the dark side (yet), but since I coach people who play the dark side and I am trying to help people adapt to various spins, this is an important surface to master at least up to an 1800-2000 level so that students don't get frustrated or give up once they face a good long pips player who chop-blocks at the table.

Good idea - I can usually tell whether my opponent never played against pips before (and I don't block close to the table much, which is yet another potent weapon). By the way, Dornenglanz is awesome for this - FL2 and 3 might be too grippy, I suspect. Never tried 755 and did you mean Air UpUpUp form Cole - never heard of Illumina pips (there is a smooth rubber though).
