This kid is walking down a totally different path from Harimoto. He plays like those from the 90s. Uses wit to contain power. Doesn't mindlessly powerloop everything. Very balanced. Like how Sun Wen said, he exploited the path of many shots in their match.

This kid is better than Xu Xin quality wise. If Xu Xin wins, he should appreciate his luck. Maybe Harimoto isn't the only very special one after all...

I can see why LGY lost to this LYJ. He doesn't have LYJ's quality. But if Cu Xin runs out of tricks, he can lose this on 6 or 7.

So Xu Xin added more variation and quality but this kid is tough. Very Samsonov/Oh Sang Eun like. If Xu Xin didn't have that amazing ability to track down balls, this would not be looking good for him.

I was shocked twice:
Xu Xin vs FZD - i thought FZD would win 4-2 or 4-1 like usual. Man I was shocked!! When was the last time XX won against FZD? 2015 I think?
Xu Xin vs Lin Yun-Ju - Lin Yun-Ju resembles a style stimilar to LGY's. This style is a natural killer of penholders. I thought Xu Xin would struggled and lose quickly 2-4. I am shocked Xu Xin is still fighting while typing this!!!

OMG who's thrilled to see Xu Xin taking out the Platinum Japan Open Men's single championship?

Oh, it is encouraging to see years of technical work on the backhand pay off even if it is only one tournament so far. His new coach must be doing something right.

After seeing LSW successfully fend off her pre-WTTC fate of being the third Olympics player at best, maybe XX felt inspired? "I'm not just a Doubles specialist, I can be awesome at Singles too!"

Also, everyone thought it would depend on FZD's performance to determine if LGY will become the new WR#1. The biggest cockblocker turns out to be XX. If my calculations are right, the penholder will regain the title next month.

In 2017 Swedish open XX beat FZD 4-1, then lost 3 times till today.
XX will become WR #1 again next month!

Talking about FZD, I had a feeling he has elbow injury? Otherwise he wouldn't have made quite a few unforced FH errors
