This is a nightmare for the Japanese team. Not just getitng knocked out at the starting gate for XD, but who knows how it'll effect Harimoto and Hayata's mentality in their matches moving forward.
Well, not that surprising really. Harimoto is terrible in doubles, H2 always carries the pair. Plus, the NK team is usually underrated as they don't compete much internationally yet trains a lot with top Chinese players so they get a lot of good coaching and training opportunities.

Not a myth, it's just his style, especially for mixed doubles. The male player in mixed doubles is supposed to cover primarily farther from the table, which isn't his strength. He's gotten better at this over the years but he's still stronger closer to the table. Hayata is very good away from the table for a female player, which helps cover for this deficiency but it's not enough. Then you have today, when Hayata isn't carrying as much as she usually does, and we have an upset.

So because Harimoto plays a different style he is terrible? Given the doubles titles he has won, this is a myth. He has won XD with his sister. You don't have to play like everyone else to be good at something. Most of what Harimoto contributes is in serve and serve return. Let's agree to disagree, it sounds like the the argument that FZD is bad at doubles.

Woah! What happened to to Harimoto / Hayata? What was the North Korean smoking prior to the match? I have gotta get some of those juice! Please please someone give a post-mortem of that match please. I could not watch the match due to time difference.

it has been known but often forgotten, DPRK national teams regularly trains in China, thus inherited Chinese fundamental technique and playstyle. It's a match that Hari and Hina were surpassed in both strategy and technique

The NK male looks like a serious player, his pivots were a work of art

Yeah you know Hayata changed blade from crazy one to controlled, personal one and if we consider them as unit. Harimoto was the one who is like wall and Hayata is finisher in this Duo? Right?
She was trying spin everything and the Kim Kum Jong was blocking everything with pips and add the important time for Ri massive hammer forehand. Harimoto always out of position with his spinny long forhand movement is disaster recipe.
Not trolling. Harimoto is still poor physical in my eyes when he must play aggressive with his forehand.

Hayata is really great physical finisher but sometimes your opponent loves your spin more than power shots. Her new style is more control placement than power domination.
Ri. The guy looks like Lebron James. He is really strong. His forehand is not Ma Long but he had time to play really fast. The female player gives him a lot of time with her pips because the ball was slower, shorter and higher. Harimoto is not all the time attacker and he needs someone who will attack high balls. Hayata was smiling and laughing and made a lot of errors.

Yes, he plays a style that's ill suited for doubles, particularly mixed doubles. It's like a chopper playing doubles with a two-winged looper, or two right-handers paired up, there are simply inherent disadvantages. Also, service and service return are not as important in doubles due to the lack of placement variations allowed in services.

I bought peacock to watch on my huge tv. I find four games going on to be quite good. For example, I am watching Truls on top left hand corner and Amy Wang in the right hand bottom corner. It is kind of interesting to see which point/rally is the most interesting and just focus on that!

I thought it was combobulating trying to follow 4 matches at the same time lol. I was interested in all 4 of the first set of mixed doubles (I mean, they did start straight in the Ro16).

Disagree.
He is great suited for mixed doubles. He would be better fit for Wang Chuqin than FZD too. He a structure guy, a wall for opponent for doubles it is important to be solid, great in every area...I said his fh long movement is disaster... but lets be clear. Its disaster when he is out of position and the actual game needs from him to put pressure on his opponents. Harimoto lacks physical FH to just win games but his FH is great to put another ball on opponent side so he needs FH dominant LEFT hand player WHO will finish the job.

Anyhow, I got myself a monthly subscription for MAX. Eurosport has live coverage of just about everything.
Having to pay 8 € for basic service which I have no use of, just to pay additional 3 € for the sports add-on is a d1ck move from them, though. On the upside, the experience is superb.

EDIT: Damn, Kanak Jha is bringing it! o_O

Kanak destroying Cho right now, he's playing some amazing table tennis
What's with the extremely loud cheering coming from for the other tables? That's the loudest I've ever heard a TT crowd get in a long time.

Was it for Bernie?
