IMO it's because Kaufmann's quality is simply too good. Miwa's not able to get her bat on anything let alone control the ball.

She is too slow for Hirano, she is worse in rally than injured Hayata, Miwa? Maybe a close match but when you are in form, you dont worry about nobody and she is in her best form. Mental shape matters.

Kaufmann is causing Miwa problems. I think AK is a taller female version of LYJ. Takes the ball early and goes for the jugular. Maybe serving short to her is helping her to flip. Nothing to do with pressure. Watch the Kaufmann matches and the results. Thr girl beat lily 3-0, Batra 3-1, Akula 3-0. All high level opponents. Most games under the score of 6. I give Japan credit but it was clear that if Kaufmann was Asian, the hype would have been off the charts. But people tried to play it off as being a result of pips.. come on, we saw Akula play Wang Manyu and Sun Yingsha and enither of them beat Akula as bad as Kaufmann did. Harimoto can come back but this is about playing level. Not about nerves.

And here is why I keep telling Ito and Hayata to retire when they play like crap. They could become THIS vulnerable when they always talk about beating China.

With an injured Hayata and an immature Harimoto, Hirano is now the only RELIABLE force on the team that can be utilized as originally planned. Unfathomable for the 2nd seed.
