one of the best matches ever, gotta feel for FZD he managed to adapt and fight back when clearly being outplayed. congrats to the captain he got worried when the game plan wasnt working anymore but showed some risk taking decisions in the end to win the match, great performance

An EPIC battle in the highest degree between the two very best players! Another epic final following the epic one two years ago in Suzhou!

This time the partner in dance is Fan Zhendong, two years ago it's Fang Bo. In both events Captain Ma Long keeps his seat!

Congratulations to both players for the fantastic match!!! Too bad gold can only be given to one side :) JiaYou!!!

FZD lost the match when he lost both of his serves point leading 9 - 7

I dont think its that simple, it could have gone either way after 7-7 at matches like these its only a matter of who blinks first, at the last point which is a typical ma long serve in crucial situations fzd should either flick to wide fh or middle or short push like zjk or wang hao did. maybe he didnt thought it out before the point maybe he played it safe who knows
when a match is so close and tactics change immediately in the 7th it really hard to say what went wront.

hell even if he did flick it maybe ML could countertopspin it anyway

thats TT. Its only small details at the end. FZD missed an easy ball (for him) at 9-8 at that opening topspin. He put them all in them on the table earlier in the match... and then that ball clipped the top of the net while he should have gone for crosscourt maybe.

And soon its game over. Its too fast, both players were technically at the same level. It was all about nerves at the end.

ZHANG JIKE!!! DID YOU watch the Epic Final???

Please step aside gracefully, gives your slot to any better player!!!

As a hindsight, I believe it's Fang Bo who should have played in your place. What a huge disgrace to watch your very play in R32...to lose such tamely, helplessly...WTF! didn't reflect the long tradition of excellent quality of CNT at all... from the era of Zhuang Zedong, Li Furong, Guo Yuehua, Cai Zhenhua... until the modern era and continues to the present time! What a shame!!!

Even if you're ridden with injury, still better to just step aside, the past OG gold & silver has been the heavy burden for you to carry nowadays... gives the lot to the fit, healthy players, no more excuses... there are plenty of your more competent teammates in queueing line!! <End of a rant>

Fan is already as good as Ma. And he is not even 20. He is going to get even better in the next year or so. Everyone else in World TT should just forget about the No1 slot for at least another 7 years. (Not that anyone outside China had a chance to get in the top 2 anyway).
