Mima Ito's loss is not too surprising. It's pretty common for athletes to perform bad directly after a huge success.
Yes, I was almost disappointed to see her in the entry list after such a high less than a week before (I know this was planned long beforehand, but still). I am actually kind of glad to see her out early against a non-CNT player rather than in, say, another semi against Ding Ning. Not sure if that makes sense. Just a bit of time to let the result sink in and confidence grow from there, analysing things a bit and coming out fresh for the next one. Instead, this felt rushed. Imagine the adrenaline after Sunday, now forget about it entirely to get on yet another plane and do it all over again. Sort of cheapens the sense of achievement. Also, the pressure and general attention on her will be huge from now, I hope she can preserve the mental state she got into last week.
All of this to say, it's mighty hard work to keep cruising at the top!! Sort of living the dream but man, the nerves it takes.
