Awesome Karlsson fight his way from Qual Group to Semi. I would say it is between him and WCT for the third place. FZD is lucky to play in this tournament with Jun's retreat. Now he has an early start to his Grand Slam run. Hard to say if XX is back to his form after Rio yet. XX did beat FZD in their last encounter. Second time in a row will be tough.

This is interesting. Wong Chun Ting and Xu Xin play in the semi finals and they are both warming up with one another right now in the training hall.

Timo Boll is in China in reunions/meetings with one of his business partners/sponsors. Also why is Freitas not playing? and why not having Ma Long there is sad, the one I miss the most is Mizutani.

Hmm.. Timo just played exhibition match with Persson, didnt look like he was in China, lol :)
So there might be another reason.
Damn great exhibition stuff, I hope someone was recording it!

He was in China a few days ago the same as Persson and Waldner, nothing wrong or funny with my original statement, he might just arrived back in Germany when the tournament already started for all we know.
And as a side note: Persson is playing his best in years, this match and the one he just played in Chinq.last week are one of his best matches in years, he had evolved! Using Banana flick et all, landing topspin left and right, he is still a beast!

After match interviews via Africa Table Tennis!

WONG Chun Ting (HKG) after beating LEE Sangsu (KOR) 4-0 in quarterfinal

It was not a difficult match for me because I had played him several times and I know how to play against him. We have met ten times and we both won each other five times now. But between last year and this year, I had defeated him four times so it was not that difficult for me to play against him today. Against Xu Xin in the semifinal, I will try my best because in our previous meetings he has defeated me six times and I only beat him once. It is going to be difficult but I will try my best tomorrow. I never expected that I would make it the semifinal stage because most of the players are on the same level with me and they are top players in the world. So I am happy with my performance so far.

LEE Sangsu (KOR) after losing 4-0 to WONG Chun Ting (HKG) in quarterfinal

He played with a lot of spin and I find it difficult to control his spins. I was not nervous at in the match, it was just that I could not control his spins.

GERELL Par (SWE) after losing 4-1 to XU Xin (CHN) in quarterfinal

After winning the first game, I was leading 7-4 in the second game but he won. Also I was leading in the third game, he caught up with me and I won. I knew that if I can win the second or third games, I could put him under a lot of pressure because I noticed he was nervous in the first game. I also missed a lot of easy balls. I am happy with my performance in the competition being last to be included in the tournament and getting to the last eight is encouraging.

XU Xin (CHN) after beating GERELL Par (SWE) 4-1 in quarterfinal

After the first game, I had to get used to his service to be able to understand the game. Even when I was leading he did not give up as he was always ready to come back.

GAUZY Simon (FRA) after losing 4-3 to KARLSSON Kristian (SWE) in quarterfinal

I think I am satisfied with my performance because I did not lose badly like 4-0. It was a close match that ended in 4-3. He dominated the game and I had problem with his service because I could not read the spin. 10 days ago I was sick and I started training just one week ago and I think getting to this stage of the competition with one week training was a good outing for me in the tournament.

KARLSSON Kristian (SWE) after beating GAUZY Simon (FRA) 4-3 in quarterfinal

Throughout the match I just tried to be focus and think of tactics. I believe I can go far in the competition but getting to the semifinal is unbelievable because I was not expecting it. My goal is to get to top 15 and I think it is achievable because I am improving in the game and I am happy to always practice.

FAN Zhendong (CHN) after beating JEOUNG Youngsik (KOR) 4-1 in quarterfinal

At the beginning it was bit difficult but as the game progresses I adjusted easily. The whole match was a bit hard but I improved with each game.

JEOUNG Youngsik (KOR) after losing 4-1 to FAN Zhendong (CHN) in quarterfinal

I think my finish was a bit bad. I was EXPECTING a very tough match which it was because I lost to him in our last meeting 4-2. Most Chinese players have strong finish and I hope to prevent this next time I meet them.

Day Two Quote 1

GAO Ning (SGP) after losing 4-0 to FAN Zhendong (CHN) in round of 16

I did not believe I would win against FAN Zhendong because he was better than me. He is a very strong player and I have no idea how to play him. But I am happy with some points I picked in the last game.

FAN Zhendong (CHN) after beating GAO Ning (SGP) 4-0 in round of 16

I thought the match would be hard for me because I could not believe it would be that easy. I had played against him before and I won 4-1. I think my next game will a tougher one and I believe if I keep my focus and concentration I can win.

Something about Gao Ning's relaxed attitude always makes me laugh :)

"I did not believe I would win against FZD because he was better than me. He is a very strong player and I have no idea how to play him"

At least he is honest! Poor Gao.

:)
