Felix needs to turn things around soon. Another Chinese blowout is going to be disappointing after the high drama we got yesterday.

TTD forum members annointed Felix as clearly the biggest threat to the Chinese a couple months ago so he needs a win here or people are going to feel a bit silly jumping the gun on that.

Whoever anointed Felix was probably someone with an agenda. Felix has not beaten a CNT top player beyond Lin Shidong. Alexis plays the CNT better. For this reason, I didn't expect today to be competitive. What Harimoto did yesterday was truly special and will drive speculation about what he could have done with a more favorable draw along the likes of what Hirano got but failed to exploit on the women's side.

So yesterday I was reflecting on who I thought would win between Truls and Calderano. In the last two Olympics, the player who has beaten Calderano has won the bronze. I hope that pattern doesn't repeat. But for it to repeat, Hugo would have to lose to Truls lol....

Until Felix fix/improve his FH, he will be breakfast for top Chinese players. His FH is really weak. I can’t say it is bad, but it doesn’t have enough power. And before someone say his FH is better than 99% bla bla, I only compare him against the very top players. His FH has much less power than Fzd, ML, Wcq, Harimoto, Hugo, Lyj, Ljk, etc. FH power/technique is a loophole in Felix’s game. I had doubt about it the first time I watched him. Other areas of his game, especially the speed, are so good that he is able to beat most players. But to win the very top players, he needs to be almost perfect.

Harimoto improve his FH greatly and was able to give Fzd a real match. Hope Felix can do it too.

Is the Chinese team instructed to have as neutral a facial expression as possible in public during the Olympics?

I've seen the camera pan over to them dozens of times and it's always the same stone faced expression from every single one.

It's almost unsettling once you know to look for it.

As far as this Olympics go, whoever played North Korea received a debuff in the subsequent match/event, with the exception of Harimoto (one could argue he could've beaten FZD otherwise).
