Hirano making so many errors and even when they get the rallies going it feels like Shin has the advantage. Not a good start.

Miu still not able to guard her forehand/middle well. She's throwing points away while Shin just sits back spinning the ball and keeping it on the table. 0-2 now.

Shin stepped up a gear and also got a couple of edge balls. Even the table tennis gods are with Korea now. Missed serve at 3-9 doesn't bode well for Hirano's form either. Called for a bathroom break at 0-3 down.

Hirano finally gets her forehand going to secure the last two points in the 4th game. Not sure how she managed to stay in the lead even after a service + two or three forehand errors. At least she's finally shouting but feels like she should have started playing with more urgency from the 2nd game.

Hirano gains some success playing into Shin's middle and in the rallies as well, although it still feels like she's slower(!?) than Shin leaving her wide backhand exposed. Shin strangely stopped using that highly effective fast long serve to the backhand, presumably to save it for 9-9 but that opportunity never came. Hirano finally gets her own lucky break at 10-8.

2-3 now but still feels like she's hanging by a thread.

Hirano covering her forehand middle much better now but doesn't feel like she has the advantage even when playing forehand to Shin's backhands. She is winning most of the rallies however. Both players are absolutely shrieking at the top of their lungs.

Hirano doesn't make it through. Ends this Olympic cycle with a series of quarterfinal finishes. Disappointing but we all knew Shin would be playing on another level. Her experience definitely showed during this game and things might have turned out different if she had turned on the heat earlier. All the best to Shin for singles and to Hirano for the team event.

SYB really needs to stop being so predictable going for deep middle. Hirano has adjusted and is looking for the ball there.
