I know it's 10:10, but I have an overwhelming impression that Felix will lose it anyways. Hence my question (before it is too late :) Do you think that Felix could ever give up penhold? Take a year off and learn shakehand. I have the impression that the precision he could achieve on BH would bring him so much closer to the very top…

Do you guys, know anyone from among the top pros who has ever done that?
Li Ching did that in the 90s, but changed back to penhold later.

Anyone got a replay of the faulted serve?
Yeah it was pretty obvious. His hand started the toss just past the midline on the FH side of the table, and he hit the ball right around the edge of the table on the BH side. That's a toss over half the width of the table and wasn't a high toss, so pretty obvious call for the ref.

To be fair WCQ isn't much better, he starts his toss just to the BH side of the table but end at the same place, so just sliiiiiightly better.

That's good when refs can call an obvious faulty serve in front of the most partisan crowd at the Olympics medal rounds.

Brave ref. So long as she faults WCQs serves when they are hidden then I'm all for it.

It's hard to see if a serve is hidden from the ref's POV though, which is why it's almost never called. It's always the serve verticalness that gets called because it's very easy for them to see where the toss starts and where it ends. The difference between Alexis and WCQ's serves in these pictures, they toss similar height and end up hitting the ball at similar spots.
