Möregårdh to China's Super League: "Biggest thing that happened"

UPDATED YESTERDAY 18:48 PUBLISHED YESTERDAY 18:45

Truls Möregårdh, 21, will play in the Chinese Super League.

Something very few Europeans have had the chance to do.

- It is among the biggest things that have happened in my career, says the Swedish table tennis star to TT.

This weekend, Möregårdh will become only the eighth European to play in the Chinese Super League since 2001.

- That's where you want to be, in China and meet the very best. It is among the biggest things that have happened in my career. It can hardly get bigger in table tennis, says Möregårdh.

The last time a Swede played in the Chinese Super League was in 2012–13 when the legendary Jörgen Persson got the chance.

- It will be great fun to see how difficult it is and feel the level. You have met a couple of the players before and you know that it is not always great fun to play against them, says the shooting star, who took silver in the WC in Houston 2021, jokingly.

Sounds interesting . At the latest match T.Moregard - Wang Chuqin viewers could really see the difference in level, WCQ's footwork compared to the top Euro player. Truls just gave up in the third game. Always non-chinese player in Chinese league is pretty unique and interesting to watch

They used to invite Diaz and Hugo right? They should include more international players

Many internationals play in the Jia A league. one division below super.
There is more teams and more players in Jia A, compared to super league.
Jia A is so open for overseas that an overseas team can book a "team spot" in the league. Like this year (2 weeks ago), Hong Kong, Singapore and a Team from Taiwan took part.

CTTA and the club in Super will only recruit foreigners if there is 1) good commercial value and/or 2) good enough.

Ariel Hsing for example was somewhat of a commericial value as CTTA wanted to push the relationship with USA. Ariel only played one game if i'm correct.

Is there is youtube channel with games from Jia A?

Shanghai looks stronger to me
Interesting. Shandong Weiqao clearly has 2 #1s, maybe 3, and an amazing balance between lefties and righties, no other team can boast that, though it depends on how you rate Xu Xin and Zhou Kai for Shanghai. Ma Long also has a way of making the young ones like Yuan Licen and Xu Yingbin play better so that will be interesting as well.
