Train hard at least twice a week at a solid level. Work on my fitness and stay injury free.

Technical and match play, really push the level so at match time there's a bit more in the tank.

Getting above 1700 TTR and a balanced or even positive win/lose ratio in the upper bracket in my league.
All in all to get good enough to get my team into the landesliga (german league) next season.

Love it man. If you don't mind me adding 10 cents, really focus on specifically WHAT you choose to practice if you are only able to practice 2-3 times per week. I've seen players I coach improve faster training 2 times per week, focusing on fixing the issues that cause them to continually lose points, compared to training 6 times per week but not picking out specific drills and not knowing what is truly costing them matches.

Injuries really are the worst, and I am honestly not qualified to help people with gym or physio stuff. But with regards to technical and match play, what would you say is the number 1 thing that

- Costs you matches and if you fixed it, you'd instantly be getting much better results?

German league sure is competitive ey! What are the 1-2 biggest skillset things that are stopping you getting above 1700TTR?

appreciate you sharing

2-3 times a week is all I can give at the moment. It's a 3-4 hour session each tme with players who are a bit stronger than me and at the same level.

Normal topspin v block drills, Topspin opening and countering, Serve and the first 3-4 topsins, recieve and opening. opening and transition to full free play. Keeping strokes in the rally compact and tidy. Finding the elbow, hip and then going wide but in a controlled way so in the correct position to actually make a decent shot. then Speed that up.

When I play my main issue is actually ring rust. It takes me a while to actually get into match mode. This is why I'm so keen to get thoses practice matches in so much then progress. Then I stand a good chance of being pretty competitive.

I love the enthusiasm! Lets go 💪
seriously in Japan there is the official federation called JTTA that everyone knows, where pros are registered. They do organize All-Japan veteran championships, they call it "All-Japan Masters" and long-term resident foreigners are allowed to play. I'd dream to win this someday. but even in my category 50+ the level is extremely high.

But ... there is another federation called STTA which is only for amateurs (more exactly pros and many strong players don't care about it) and doesn't make any fuss about foreigners joining in.

I'd say in 50+ the participation in STTA is around 50% to 66% (??) of JTTA so its a bit easier, but there's still many good players who also compete in JTTA. i'm quite far from having the national level, but my teammate (from India) is actually the All-Japan STTA 50+ champion last year. I practice often with him so i can experience for real the difference in level.

Furthermore, in the STTA TEAM competition, because we have this champion in our team, maybe we can dream of winning the championships ! even the chances are slim...

[the subtlety is that the Japanese name for the championship is also a bit different although the meaning is essentially the same
JTTA official national tournament name is 全日本卓球選手権(マスターズの部)
STTA is 全国卓球大会(年代別の部) ]

Hard to say as ive just peaked.
But i would say my leg work and consistency overall. While i do have probably the strongest shots (especially fh) in the league, i am not landing those as often as i have to.

But hey, i would never said it is stopping me 🤣
Jokes aside, i am not completely outmatched here, although it is my first time playing that high. "Just" have to get used to the level and keep on training, to improve my technique and speed.

The goal is to finally settle between Jupiter 3 and H3N (orange, nat/prov), for Christ's sake. Whenever I feel suboptimal, J3 is a godsend but the power ceiling for the shots isn't impressive. Meanwhile, when I train 5 times a week and my footwork/body is on point, I feel like with H3N I am on top of the world.
I think I switched between them 6 or 7 times during 2024, it's time to finally choose the only one for good in 2025.

Or maybe 2025 is the best time to try LAC and forget about boosting forever, that would be awesome.
