Like the JNT, the 3rd member is up to the coaching staff, so it is game over for WYD with Li Sun putting it that way.I remembered I forgot Kihara after I wrote my post, and again, the existence of WMY is the key. They framed it as a singles thing, but the reality is that WYD is just toast with respect to the Olympics, the team is better able to tolerate Chen Meng at #3.
The Chen Meng and Wang Manyu pairing is already being utilized so it is clear where this is all going.

MLin cited her results at Asian Cup 2022 and WTT SCT Goa 2023 as the basis for WTTC 2023 (in the press conference that took place after Singapore Smash 2023) but ironically it was a downward spiral from there, both starting and ending with Hirano.
WTTC 2021
R16 WYD 4-2 Hayata
Asian Cup 2022
SF WYD 4-1 Hayata
F WYD 4-2 Ito
WTT SCT Goa 2023
SF WYD 1-2 -> 3-2 Harimoto
Singapore Smash 2023
R16 WYD 0-2 -> 2-3 Hirano
WTTC 2023
QF WYD 1-2 -> 3-2 -> 3-4 Hayata
Asian Games 2022
WS SF WYD 1-2 -> 3-2 -> 3-4 Hayata
WTT SCT Lanzhou 2023
R16 WYD 0-3 Kihara
WTTC 2024
F WYD 0-3 Hirano
Speaking of Kihara, I still get the hunch that she would fare better than Hayata against WMY (don't let Kihara play CM, her idol, though), which is why I suggested her over Hayata because of her value in doubles with Harimoto. Hayata playing 2 singles will likely end up the same like Ito at Tokyo 2020.
