I have a friend, a penholder, who does not speak English well (he is a visitor from China). When we practice, he tends to do the spinny "block" with his wrist brushing over the ball a bit (he plays RPB). I struggle to explain to him how to block flat. I am pretty sure there should be some tutorial in Chinese on how to properly flat block in practice with RPB that I can forward him. So please post one if you know.

The Wang Hao instructional is full of RPB techniques.

However, I have a feeling that your friend isn't trying to do the flat block. I think he's trying to do a technique called 快带, which roughly translates to "quickly bring (the ball)" which involves just brushing the ball back, like a brush block.

No idea how good you guys are but if his spin block is decent there is no need to change that.

In practice, spin blocks can be extremely annoying if you need to do drills and warm up rapidly. Credit to Ilia and the penholder is they want to become better practice partners for each other.

no matter what grip we are talking about, for the spin block your bat has to be angled down and traveling forward and up, while for the regular block you have to have an ONLY SLIGHTLY closed bat angle (almost vertical) and only traveling forward and not up.

the trick to a nice controlled block is minimizing the back swing or even not having any at all.

Yeah, in practice extra spin on blocks kills consistency for both parties.
