A kind of "red corner" from the soviet era has formed here.
Printed newspapers, no one needs congresses, party cards, and dust in the corners...
And the Cold War mentality lives on in people that refuse to move on.

China's Rise Is Terrifying Capitalists | Richard Wolff & Michael Hudson

I would even go further and say socialism has taken a variety of forms. There is the form of Scandinavia, Denmark and things like that. There is democratic socialism à la Bernie Sanders, which is similar to that. Then there's the socialism of the Soviet Union. That's pretty different. Then there's the socialism of China, which is different again. And then there are other socialism beyond those that are becoming relatively more important.

In contrast, the Great Hall of the People of the then piss-poor People's Republic of China in 1972 accommodated "800 diplomats and dignitaries from the free and communist worlds..."

War has already changed.
The next war at sea will not be a battle of aircraft carriers.
Our country, having no fleet at all, has sunk most of the ships of the Black Sea Fleet, including the flagship of the fleet - the missile cruiser "Moscow".

(Witnessing a Revolutionary Era

The era I have experienced here
is a revolutionary one—
spanning from the late 1970s to the present day.
China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong—East Asia as a whole—
have undergone rapid and immense transformation.
Architecture, industry, and the people themselves—
changes in the people,
changes in mindset—
everything has evolved very quickly
and dramatically.

Meanwhile,
the Western world has changed very little;
we are moving too slowly.

President Xi often speaks of "the East rising and the West declining,"
and there is truth to that.
Our mindset is not as open as that of the people in the East;
we are too conservative.

That is why this century will undoubtedly be the Asian century.)

Tell us you're very likely white, male, and religious without telling...

Where there is communism, there is destruction.
From an objective standpoint, socialist states have provided much faster development, much better standards of living, and far less belligerent foreign policy than capitalist states. Control for any variable you like. Capitalism causes poverty, war, and inequality in far greater quantities than communism. The so-called "100 million death toll" of communism is exceeded by the death toll of capitalism in India alone.

You should thank Deng Xiaoping, who, under the slogan "One country, two systems", introduced the capitalist system that now brings you all these benefits.
Instead, you broadcast communist propaganda
Deng Xiaoping's reforms were important for Chinese prosperity, no doubt. But the liberalization and openness to foreign investment did not change the communist nature of the Chinese state.

China learned from its own mistakes and from the mistakes of the USSR -- it is not possible to transform a feudal agricultural society directly into a socialist society. There must be a phase of capitalist development in between, wherein profit incentives dictate the allocation of scarce resources, so that the society can reach a baseline level of development before transitioning to socialism. The purpose of the communist state is to ensure that the capitalist mode does not escape control, and that the society will transition to socialism when it is ready.

Just because capitalism is the right thing to do now does not mean that capitalism is eternally correct. Capitalism is useful in order to develop a society. Once that society reaches a post-scarcity level of development (which much of the West has already achieved), then capitalism becomes actively harmful -- it creates monopolies, dismantles the industry, and shifts towards financialization. The west is in the late stages of capitalism. Late-stage capitalism will never reach China because China's state is socialist.

In the west, capital controls governments. Billionaires dictate policy based on what is good for them, and ordinary people do not have a meaningful voice in how the economy is run. The state is unconscious, blindly being pulled by the dynamics of late-stage capitalism. In China, the government controls capital and guides it with the vision of implementing a socialist mode of production one day. The Chinese state executes billionaires for corruption -- could you imagine such a thing happening in the west?

In the last 50 years, China has not dropped a single bomb. They have lifted 800 million people out of poverty. Cuba has sent its doctors around the world FOR FREE while under a crippling blockade (an act of war). Meanwhile, the US and its capitalist allies have bombed dozens of countries back into the stone age, killed tens of millions of people, and bullied countries into sabotaging their own economies so that the US could extract their resources.

China is building and developing. The US steals and cheats, and does not actually produce anything. We are using your country as a pawn to weaken Russia, and once your country is destroyed in the war we will abandon you. We don't care about you, we care about enriching the weapons manufacturers and weakening Russia.

Hi, @greenbeanmachine
America or Europe did not start this war.
russia invaded our country with tanks, and it is russia that is continuing this war—destroying our homes, ruining our cities and villages, and killing and maiming people. Were it not for the aid from your country and other civilized nations, the situation would be far worse. We are grateful for this support. True friends are revealed in times of trouble. And if we will survive, we will find a way to repay that kindness.
As for China, a single word from it could stop this war, because today russia is entirely dependent on China. Yet, for some reason, China is not doing so. Why?

P.S. Unlike us, you didn't live under real communism and couldn't experience firsthand all the "advantages" of such a life.

Let me clarify the situation a bit.

It was Russia that attacked Ukraine, prompting Ukraine to ask the US and other countries for help in defending itself against the invaders. Ukraine is defending itself against genocide, and US aid primarily benefits Ukraine. If it benefits the US as well, that is a good thing. After the war, Ukraine won't need as many weapons, and the US will naturally stop providing them—which is only natural and normal. As for the idea that the US doesn't care about Ukraine—while that might be normal in ordinary circumstances, it is simply untrue right now. The US has provided a great deal of aid to Ukraine during the war.

(I focused on the US because the original text mentioned the US, but other countries are also providing significant aid to Ukraine.)

Certainly I agree that Russia (particularly Putin) made the decision to invade Ukraine four years ago and it is an unjustifiable act of aggression. The invasion is brutal and fascist and has caused an immense amount of suffering for both Ukrainian and Russian people. I really hope that Ukrainian people and culture and civilization can survive.

I think that focusing on the morality of Russia invading Ukraine prevents us from seeing the larger geopolitical picture. Geopolitical dynamics does not have morality. The US is trying to extend its sphere of influence increasingly to the east, and Russia sees this as a threat. Likewise, if Russia started training troops in Mexico and becoming very friendly with the Mexican government, the US would correctly interpret this as a threat, and would invade Mexico. I'm not saying that this is morally correct, just that it is the reality. The US could have prevented this war if they had not tried to extend their influence to Ukraine. Fortunately for the Mexican people, Russia is not so stupid as to try the same thing in Mexico.

The reason the US is expanding its sphere of influence is to extract resources from Europe and turn European countries into its vassal states which export their goods to the US and which do not have their own sovereignty. Tell me with a straight face that there is any country in Western Europe which is not a slave of the United States. That is what the US wants for you, too. The US is not helping you fight Russia because they are your friend -- there is no such thing as friends for the US. We are helping you fight Russia because (1) it will weaken Russia and (2) we will demand access to your natural resources when the war is over. The American government does not care about Ukrainian sovereignty.

As for the idea that the US doesn't care about Ukraine—while that might be normal in ordinary circumstances, it is simply untrue right now. The US has provided a great deal of aid to Ukraine during the war.
In the famous words of Henry Kissinger, our greatest diplomat, “To be America's enemy is dangerous, but to be America's ally is fatal”. We betray all of our allies once we can no longer extract resources and geopolitical benefits from them. Don't fall for it.

As for China, a single word from it could stop this war, because today russia is entirely dependent on China. Yet, for some reason, China is not doing so. Why?
I wish China would put pressure on Russia to end their war of aggression in Ukraine. I also wish they would pressure Israel to stop its genocide of Palestinians. China is not perfect and I am not claiming that they are -- all I am claiming is that they are far better than both the US and Russia. My understanding is that China is interested purely in maximizing its own economic prosperity and not focusing on international justice. At least China does not start wars because they are smart enough to understand that wars are bad for everyone.

P.S. Unlike us, you didn't live under real communism and couldn't experience firsthand all the "advantages" of such a life.
Yeah, you are right. I was not even born when the eastern bloc fell. My mother grew up in DDR though, so I do hear about it. Perhaps I would have a different opinion if I had lived it. Polling data consistently shows that, for people in the eastern bloc who are old enough to remember communist rule, they prefer it to capitalist rule.

Okay, thanks. Let’s establish, then, that this was unprovoked fascist aggression. Just one small clarification: it began in 2014 with Crimea and the Donbas. As someone who witnessed the events firsthand and is a native of the Donbas, this is very important to me.
I think that focusing on the morality of Russia invading Ukraine prevents us from seeing the larger geopolitical picture. Geopolitical dynamics does not have morality. What do you mean by the phrase "expanding the sphere of influence"? In economic terms, Russia-US trade volume prior to 2014 was ten times greater than US-Ukraine trade volume. Even in 2026, trade volume with Russia remains higher than with Ukraine. Regarding military exercises, the Russians frequently conducted joint drills with the US (such as *Vigilant Eagle*). As for Ukrainian public sentiment, prior to 2014 (Russia's attack on Ukraine), only 5% of Ukrainians viewed Russia as an enemy (according to an official poll), while 81% held a positive view. Figures regarding Ukrainian attitudes toward the US that same year showed approximately 40% with a positive view and 35% with a negative one. Following the 2014 attack, attitudes toward Russia shifted drastically, whereas attitudes toward the US did not change as significantly (a 2026 poll showed roughly 55% with a positive view of the US and 36% with a negative one; for the sake of accuracy, I should add that 83% of Ukrainians have a favorable view of US citizens, while only 9% have an unfavorable one). Thus, speaking of an expansion of influence is, to say the least, odd. The cause was Russia's invasion of Ukraine; the consequence was an increase in US influence.
The reason the US is expanding its sphere of influence is to extract resources from Europe and turn European countries into its vassal states which export their goods to the US and which do not have their own sovereignty. Tell me with a straight face that there is any country in Western Europe which is not a slave of the United States.
Take any country... Hungary is a good example. Trump openly supported the incumbent, Orbán, yet the Hungarians went ahead and voted for someone else. Isn't that proof of the Hungarian people's freedom?
That is what the US wants for you, too. The US is not helping you fight Russia because they are your friend -- there is no such thing as friends for the US. We are helping you fight Russia because (1) it will weaken Russia and (2) we will demand access to your natural resources when the war is over. The American government does not care about Ukrainian sovereignty.
Most Ukrainians agree with you and fully understand this. I agree with you, too. But Ukraine is currently caught between Scylla and Charybdis. Option 1: accept US aid and eventually hand over the mineral resources (the quantity of which is merely estimated), while preserving lives and the land. Option 2: lose the war to Russia, in which case Russia will take not only the minerals but also the land and millions of Ukrainian lives.

Which of these two bad options would you choose?

The option of reaching an agreement is appealing, but Russia does not honor agreements if there are no consequences for breaking them. Ukraine signed at least four treaties regarding non-aggression and borders, and Russia violated every single one of them.
In the famous words of Henry Kissinger, our greatest diplomat, “To be America's enemy is dangerous, but to be America's ally is fatal”. We betray all of our allies once we can no longer extract resources and geopolitical benefits from them. Don't fall for it.
I agree with you, but let me say it again: Ukraine has no choice.
I agree with you again, with one small clarification: China did go to war with Vietnam and lost. That was a long time ago, though, and a lot has changed in China since then. Still, I’m wary of China because they didn't have the kind of power they do now—they simply lacked the capacity to wage war. Their rhetoric regarding Taiwan—whether it leans toward peaceful coexistence or annexation—will be very telling for me.
Yeah, you are right. I was not even born when the eastern bloc fell. My mother grew up in DDR though, so I do hear about it. Perhaps I would have a different opinion if I had lived it. I think that all over the world, older people feel nostalgic for the days when they were young and full of energy, and they project that feeling onto everything else. I find myself having such thoughts, too.

Hey guys, what's your take on The Age of Disclosure?

The idea that they are capable of forming a space-time bubble around the object (itself) sounds very plausible to me. Imo we don't understand space-time and matter enough, and the current best theory, general relativity, however genial, is actually "only" an approximation visible on "usual" scale. Apart from that, it's nice to see the US from it's better side, excellent in fact, for a while again ;-)

In 2021, Alibaba Group was reported to have pledged $15 billion towards common prosperity. In August 2021, Tencent created a $7.7 billion fund towards common prosperity. On 3 February 2022, Liu Qiangdong, founder of JD.com, announced he was donating $2.2 billion worth of stocks to charity as part of common prosperity. By 2022, Hurun's China Rich List reported that top ten philanthropists in China pledged 6.3 percent of their wealth to donation totaling around $8.7 billion, while 49 benefactors in total gave away $10 billion from April 2021 to August 2022.

Meanwhile, in the free and democratic West, the common folk is steadily getting priced out of everything by the infinitely greedy corporate caste.
