The Chinese National Table Tennis Team before the announcement of the WTTC 2011 selection were under going specialised training with head coach Liu Guoliang. The training is in response for preparation at the World Table Tennis Championships in May 2011 and the Olympics in 2012. The training is beyond belief reported players in the setup. The Chinese elite, including Ma Lin, Ma Long, Xu Xin and more were having to train for 12 hours a day with as little as 3 hours sleep a night!

Each day there training sessions began at 7am sharp having slept or not. They would end up studying into the early hours of the morning up till 2am. In the photo above Liu Guoliang does not want his players to be lazy!

in order for Liu to put there training skills into practical analysis he setup his 8 elite first team with the non essiential key players in the squad. Without any days rest, Zhang Jike, Wang Hao, Chen Qi, Wang Liqin, Ma Lin, Xu Xin, Ma Long, and Hao Shuai, had to play matches against the China National Team 2 squad. Liu Guoliang's theory is to test the players ability after being tired. Thus, the National 2 team will try there hardest to win to prove they can compete with the first team. The results came through and only 3 players proved they could win. Wang Liqin beat Qiu Yike, Wang Hao beat Li Ping and Xu Xin beat Zhang Chao. The rest of the first team players lost and have to pay for it! Literally!

In order to keep Liu's first team motivated, players have to pay when they loose these internal matches against the second team. A reporter said Zhang Jike quoted "the training can be expensive". Currently at the time of this, Zhang Jike was ranked 3 in the world. This is how Liu keeps his players focussed.

In response to this, the womens team member Liu Shiwen replied, “Ha, thats crazy Xu Xin, how’s the training method?” Xu Xin replied, “Training starts at seven every morning!”

These messages had shock the Weibo and Table Tennis fans in China. Lots of users commented that it was to harsh on he players and that they are only human at the end of the day. However, many users said how effective Coach Liu Guoliang training methods are and that the players will get use to exhaustion and jet lag on there upcoming major events.

So, they practice at list 3 times more than any european top player. During a regular season they practice double, now practice triple. What do you think its going to happen during WTTC?

Its going to be a Chinese pretty much 90% sure... I think Wang Hao, Xu Xin or Zhang Jike... But im routing for Timo Boll all the way! If he gets a good draw and misses Xu Xin and Wang Hao theres a chance! :)

I'm sure LGL will take into account of injuries. That's some cutthroat competition there though. Props to LGL for doing this. Again, he wants to see how players perform when they're at their worst, not at their best. A better experiment would be to give the B team plenty of sleep and have regular training, and then pit the healthy B team against the exhausted A team, along with a 2 point handicap (the standard handicap for A team vs B team matches)

The training is only for about 2-3 weeks. That's the reason all sport team have their professor trainer. They must have discussed with their trainer to optimize the training. I'm believe currently the training is now kind of over.
