This years World Championships will see an important meeting in table tennis, the 2017 Annual General Meeting which will see the new ITTF president elected. There are three candidates for the position, one being current ITTF president Thomas Weikert. The other two are Khalil Al-Mohannadi and Jean Michel Saive. Whoever wins the election will be the ITTF president for the next 4 years.
Below are details for each candidates background, proposal and manifesto.
Thomas Weikert
Thomas Weikert has been the current ITTF president since 2014 and believes that his work needs to continue and that this is the best option for table tennis. Thomas expresses:
“This Manifesto sets out my blueprint for the future development of the ITTF and global Table Tennis. I believe it builds on the achievements that have been accomplished in my first term in office as ITTF President and I am convinced that by working with this vision – in true partnership with Continental and National Associations – our sport will enter an exciting new phase of global growth that sees the creation of more Table Tennis players and fans” — Thomas Weikert

Jean Michel Saive
Jean Michel Saive is one of the best players of all time reaching world number 1 status for a period of 17 months! Saive wants to become the ITTF president and even has the Belgium prime minister backing his corner! Saive expresses:
“I was one of the founders of the Club of Table Tennis Professionals in the 1990’s; I have been an active member of my National Olympic Committee since 2001, serving in various positions up to now, including as a Board member (since 2009) and Chair of the Athletes Commission (since 2013); in 2009 I became a member of the European Olympic Committee (EOC) where I currently serve as Chair of the Athletes’ Commission and am an EOC Board member; I started to work for my Federation in 2010 and became Technical Director in 2012; I also manage my private business myself” — Jean Michel Saive

Khalil Al-Mohannadi
Khalil Al-Mohannadi’s is the president of the Arab Table Tennis Union and has been a member of the ITTF Executive Committee since 2007.
“I am proud that the Qatar Table Tennis Association has made huge progress during my years of office and has become one of the leading and most successful organizers of high level world table tennis events” — Khalil Al-Mohannadi
