This shows a big popular increase in audience at the Pro Tour events as you can see in the picture above, there were a lot of people supporting and cheering on Timo Boll of Germany the nations favourite and Ma Lin of China!

Althought, Boll went on to beat 2 Chinease players, Ma Lin and Hao Shaui he could not make it a 3rd time by loosing to inform Zhang Jike of China in the final hurdle 4-0. This is what Boll had to say' "Zhang Jike presented an outstanding performance today and deserved the victory".

However, on the positive note of Boll's Success to the final there was a downside. The German Table Tennis Team of Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Bastian Steger and Patrick Baum all dropped out at the early stages of the event. Dimitrij and Patrick Baum are their London Olympic hopefuls.

The German's sports director , (Dirk Schimmelpfennig) of the the DTTB had this to say, "we have had a lot of tournaments in the last few weeks, we need to use March and April as a means of good training to get back into the shape again. Phus, May is only around the corner for the World Championships in Dortmund.

What do you think of this article, is the sports director being a bit to critical on 1 or 2 bad performances? or is this life at the top end of sports?

For Timo I think it's all about timing the peak of his performance.

He does not want to reach peek form too early and then be off the boil for the World Championships.

I think in another 2 months Timo will be ready and firing on all cylinders.

Their whole schedule is setup to reach maximum output when it really matters and this year it's all about the World Championships.
