Is it just me or could Hayata and Hirano play with more urgency? The way she lost those two points at 9-9 felt way too casual. You were two points away from an Olympic semifinal! That certainly wouldn't be the reaction if she were 3-1, 9-9 against SYS.
It's hard to adjust to such changes in momentum. I mean think about times you were up 3-1, 9-9. Usually, you feel you will win regardless. It is the change in flow that upsets you. I like what Wang Manyu once said, you don't control how you feel in those moments. Control is a reaction, not a proaction. If it was as easy as telling yourself to think a certain way, many players would never have mental attitude problems.

Hayata keeps Japanese medal hopes alive for now so this isn't the 'worse Olympics ever' for Japan yet. If she gets bronze and above I'll be convinced that she's Japan's true number 1. She's proven that she's a cut above the rest once again by not tripping over the North Korean stumbling block that has befuddled everyone else.

Why are they jinxing their medal chances lol

Bronze is not enough for Japan's No. 1. Ito has it. Hayata needs to reach the final at a minimum.

Think of the ATTC 2021 title for Hayata. Compare that with the ATTC 2017 title for Hirano. Even Hayata doesn't mention it.

I am so happy Hayata pulled through. Wow, the North Korean player is tough as nails and so solid fundamentally. But you are gonna be tested in the Olympics, and this player was a tougher test than Adriana would have been.

Hayata can't beat SYS playing like this.

She is fortunate to have Hirano take a hit for her at Asian Games 2022. Likewise, SYB has JJH and Harimoto/Hayata and WCT/DHK take a hit for her here.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with not beating Sun Yingsha playing like a Goddess. You just play your best game and whatever happens happens. Miu Hirano didnt even beat Shin Yubin despite having match points. So that is now the "dumb" Hayata's fault?

hopefully this was just messing up the rehearsal in preparation for the game of her life
As far as this Olympics go, whoever played North Korea received a debuff in the subsequent match/event, with the exception of Harimoto (one could argue he could've beaten FZD otherwise).

Omar has beaten Truls the past couple of times they have played internationally so he wasn't going to let Truls just win. But I think Truls at this event has what it takes. But I have a picture with Omar, one of the few pictures with a TT celebrity I have taken. Would be nice to see it go up in value lol.

Yes but Hirano and Ito only have either WTTC or Olympic bronze, not both. You could argue that Hirano is the greatest of all time with her big ATTC win, but in terms of current strength it's hard to say that Hirano with her struggling forehand against SYB is better than Hayata hammering away at the tougher Pyon.

The idea that Japan would not be happy with a bronze medal in the face of Chinese dominance and given that only one other Japanese woman has ever done it is plainly ridiculous.

Last Swedish men's singles medal was from Walder (silver) in 2000.

Walder and Persson then finished 4th in 2004 and 2008 respectively. Can Truls break the curse?
Well, he will have to do his best job at confusing Hugo. He tends to play Hugo well, it will be interesting to see whether this new Hugo makes a difference. But he has better beat Hugo. He is not beating anyone he will face in the bronze medal match unless they are injured.
