JPN: We're coming for you, CHN!
GER: Schweinshaxe!

And here is why I keep telling Ito and Hayata to retire when they play like crap. They could become THIS vulnerable when they always talk about beating China.

With an injured Hayata and an immature Harimoto, Hirano is now the only RELIABLE force on the team that can be utilized as originally planned. Unfathomable for the 2nd seed.
An injured Hayata that beat SYB for a bronze medal... the same SYB that beat Hirano.

If anything, it's JNT management that should retire for their horrible selection process and team lineups. They are partially to blame for Ito's burnout. Hirano for two singles in the finals please.

And her event was WS only? You call that an ace? Putting your team at such a disadvantage because of your own dream? Ito and Hayata are equally selfish.

If she's that injured they can always play Kihara. There's a reason they keep pushing Hayata

Your creativity in finding ways to put down Hayata is astonishing.

Welp, guess we'll have to see Kaufmann vs the CNT in a WTT event then.
The real question is whether she can maintain this level after the Olympics. One tournament magic is real even if we think otherwise.

it's understandable for anyone to be 'selfish' for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, especially one that they've been working their entire life for. Han Ying said she understood why Fukuhara and team Japan contested the matchpoint edge ball at Rio 2016, and that she would probably have done the same in their position.

If Hayata had quit and Japan went home with no singles bronze medal, she might have been criticized for wasting the efforts of Coach Ishida and the rest of her team, which includes Idesawa and Kihara who flew over to be practice partners. Wasn't Nina criticized for quitting at the European Championship Finals 2022 too? Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Kaufmann on another level. Won't even be mad if Germany wins and she reaches the final however unlikely because she absolutely deserves it. 5/5 comprehensive victories so far. Suddenly Korea don't look like the favourites for bronze.
Indeed, she's been absolutely brilliant.
She was a European Champion at all youth levels and is the current German national champion but I never heard of her before this!
Would have loved to see her against the Chinese players to see what's what but I think Korea are too much for the rest of that German team.

Felix the 🐈‍⬛ is becoming very predictable, fast long serve on backhand or short forehand serve followed with ripping third ball backhand attack. If someone can survive those first few onslaught and mange to place the returns more towards the middle of the table, he is generally in trouble. This works with smaller preys but to catch big fish, he needs to listen (or not listen) to his inner true cat; become unpredictable and then he can conquer the whole world and the world will bear all the tantrums and watch him do his things in awe.

Did you really have to answer his ridiculous position? When does getting a medal for your country become selfish because your country can't use you in the team event for which your country would still be a medal favorite without you anyways? She already proved that she is still better than the people behind her even injured.

The German championship and quite obviously being the best German player in training has given her confidence to go and do it!
Bronze medal match be greet for her although I think she's alone again in ability to win.

Oh she is here to stay in terms of the German team. She also won bronze at the WJTTC last year if I remember correctly. But the level she is showing now is top 10 maybe top 5 and that can be a flash that disappears for a true top 15/top 20 player.
