Mizutani should never lose to Harimoto in such a match. Congratz to him but if he meets a top 10 player in normal shape he is going to get rekt like he did by Ovtcharov at indian open. I am sure his time will come but there is still some way to go

I dont think there is a need to draw anything but I will agree with NL abouth the chinese (it would be interesting to see if LGL starts drawing basement tactics and stuff how many other coaches will copy him). TT is not as complicated as basketball when it comes to tactics/strategy and it doesnt have other players to interact with

A coach can just say play extreme BH, then to his/her elbow, then BH and then extreme FH and you just do it because it is a pattern you have done zillion times in training, the difficult thing is to actually remember all these different patterns , my guess is that is the reason that we have seen LSW and hirano looking at their notes, who knows

One thing I find odd that perhaps I just don't see in the videos is that the player rarely says anything. Not a "that's a good idea" or "what about this" or "I observed this", or even a "Yes, coach". Almost always simply nodding and drinking.

this is because the player is in game mode, not conversation mode. It is a completely different mindset when athletes compete at higher levels.

It's not one size fits all. Some people ask what the player felt or the player sometimes does provide information, but it is usually less than a minute to talk to the player and the match play doesn't give a lot of room for self-awareness on the part of the player. What coaches tell players varies as well. Some just give information without solutions while some tell the player what specifically to do. Others just try to reaffirm what the player is doing well.

What did you expect? A salute and a "Sir, yes Sir?
Most of the times the players are still in their "tunnel" to block out negative emotions and distractions.

@NexLevel Yeah, but have you observed in the NBA how in the final quarters when victory hinges on a point or two, you will see a coach call a time out and scribble some play on his pad. None of the players absorb the information actively, rather they have this very passive, non-acknowledging air about them because their mind is entirely on the game, and its like they are literally soaking it in subconsciously. I feel like that is what I'm observing in TT when a chinese coach drills a top player in the midde of a game.

Mizutani was slow and sluggish. May be training with Vladi and Dima made his game more European. I am sure LGY or XX will crush this little choing monster. But either way Japanese fans need to rejoice. They might just have a winner 5-6 years down the lane. I too have nothing against his choing. If you are a pro these things should not matter to you.
What do you mean by "training with Dima"? Ovtcharov is living and practicing in Düsseldorf, Samsonov is often in Düsseldorf as well. The only days where both can practice with Mizutani is before champions league games and this is probably more a warmup than a real training.
Mizutani is practicing in Japan most of the time and - at least until Rio - sometimes in Nürtingen in Germany where Qiu Jianxin has his Butterfly training center.

those assumptions are hilarious. a few trainings dont change your playstyle. Mizu was too passive today I dont know why but it definitely had its importance, also a few problems with harimoto's serves made him hesitate, he was definitely not in the zone today as we were used to in the past year. Totally unexpected result, based on mizu's performance so far
