Yeah its a pity, consistency and minimal unforced errors is what separates chinese doubles from the rest of the world, lots of furious attacks from japan went wasted but going passive is a worse option.

I think slowly but gradually maybe we will witness korea or japan beating china even on team events

I think the more difficult hurdle isn't just winning the odd isolated event, but to actually be able to build up players and a support structure that can win consistently. Which I don't see happening anytime soon, seeing as it takes years and years to build up!

It was a marvelous Doubles final, very spectacular. The Chinese are really champions. But despite Oshima and Morizono singles level being far below the Chinese, they really worked and trained hard as a pair, they are real doubles specialists, anybody can see it. They gave a tough challenge to the Chinese. As a supporter I believed until the very end they could still win.

Oshima and Morizono both played incredibly well, they were as fierce as the Chinese and very good in serves and receives. Well, until in the 5th set, they were 2 points up and Oshima made 2 receive misses in a row in the net. From that point, he was out of the match mentally, his arm was shivering. Morizono was fantastic and holding the team all by himself but it was too much in the end for him.

Really too bad. Silver is a very nice color for a medal, but 2 years ago, they lost in QF to the Chinese, after holding match point. They were seeded n1 and didn't have to encounter any Chinese pair nor MA/BOLL until the finals. You don't get that many opportunities in your career. It was a fantastic opportunity to get gold. The Chinese were not always 100% focused, they might have been thinking about their singles SF going on later... You could see they were annoyed to face resistance from the Japanese.

Anyone know what the prize money is for the various events and placements?
probably ridiculous
but top athletes (all those medalists and even some QF) receive a lot of revenues from sponsors and advertising...

I think Harimoto and Morizono would have made a more spirited pair. Oshima has been a little disappointing off late ... even in the doubles Morizono showed more character and motivation ...

I don't think there is any prize money from the ITTF, usually the national associations hand out some money for good placements. It's not much though, wttc is for the prestige ;)

Seems a shame that the Ping Pong World Championships has a bunch of prize money, but the Table Tennis World Championships is for prestige.

MAYbe you are right but oshima just needs to position himself better in the rally imho and the tide will change. XX constantly loop onto his body and finished the point, or maybe set up the point better so that XX wont pivot from his BH or when he is in the middle. wide FH or BH and body shots, anyway the japanese are gettint closer especially in the doubles, 4-1 does not mean much when the sets are so damn close
