Great job by Fan - I think the number of errors and passive returns he drew on serves won him this match. Dima is going to have to go back to the lab and study that hard. Too many missed aggressive returns and misdirections at critical moments.

Did you watch the replay? The replay didn't look that sky high and the second bounce was abominably low relative to the first bounce. The serve kicked sideways not upwards.

I wonder why Dima sometimes "cheat" when returning serves, thinking the serve is going to his fh side, and that decision always puts him in a bad spot. As it should. You can never cheat - adapt and overcome.

very many players do that. I wish hidden serves were simply made legal again.

dunno, it looked perfectly suitable for a flick kill. Dima looked very surprised with how hight the serve turned out - so surprised he forgot to make the decision what to do with it, even his push was nowhere near going over the net.

Well serves kick in all sorts of directions, what ultimately matters is if Dima read the spin and if the ball was high enough. The pressure got to him.

4-0 ... a total annihilation of Dima and sweet revenge for FZD. I think FZD changed his playing a little bit. He didn't go for extremely powerful shots like he used to. Instead, he controlled the ball more from either BH or FH, less risky this way.

its not Atas Newton flip kill, its Dima's

Anyway its not simply our opinion, Adam Bobrow watched the replay and its his opinion as well that Dima could easily have flicked this ball

FZD has shown up at full power. Dima seems to be down on confidence in that third set.

Yes, he did sometimes give off a tiny hint of that special look of a rabbit caught in deer lights while under machine gun crossfire.

Seeing more of the game, I'm still amazed about how much DO is a BH-oriented player. He seems to get away with a lot of it, but every now and then just having the FH flick or push just as an option surely would not hurt to have, would it?
