Kao Cheng-rui has a good backhand but his fore is just too lackluster. Does Taiwan focus on training their backhand too much?

well, the 4 youngsters never had the same coach or "trained together".
It is just co-incidence that all 4 are/were stronger on the BH.

Feng is maybe more complete with his FH
As evidence in Lin, Kao could always still improve on the FH side.
Huang Yan-Cheng is also stronger on the BH.

A good question could be, why are the BH stronger players beating the FH stronger players in Taiwan?
the FH players are not that old (ie 25~29), but can't make the cut with these 20~22 years old.

One thing I find a bit intriguing about Harimoto is that his whiff rate on FH counters is very high compared to people around his rank. I'm not talking about just missed shots that don't find the table, I'm talking about him having plenty of time to load up a FH counter and completely failing to make contact with it.

A lot of the time they look like they should be point ending shots in his favor too. Has anyone else noticed this?

LYJ 2-3 Boll (5, -4, 7, -9, -5)

The last 2 meetings that went to LYJ were close as well.

Togami 2-3 Harimoto (8, -4, -2, 7, -7)
Harimoto is better at covering his FH pocket here after WTT SCT Doha 2024.
