Aruna looks to be faster in this tournament though...
Problem is, Aruna has no bh and Hugo plays a really really fast table tennis.
It is like with Darko just the other way around. While Aruna has no good bh Darkos fh is pretty bad, which was the main reason here, he loses so clearly against Hugo. As long as Darko doesnt fix that issue he is quite overrated in terms of WR.

Actually, mentioned issue for Aruna can be seen quite clearly right now^^

Yep you're right.... You need to be good at both wings, can't be unbalanced these days...

Aruna kind of fell apart after dropping the lead in the 2nd game. Aruna was at least able to get into the rally with his BH and setup his FH against Harimoto but couldn't get anything going this time. Credit to Hugo for completely neutralizing Aruna. Lot of spin variety and good placement to punish early Aruna's early steparound attempts.

19 in a row for Hugo and he's on top of his game. Going to need it with how unbeatable Ma Long has looked this tournament.

Sun is #1 and Wang Manyu is #4 so they got put into same half.

Meng is #2 and Wang Yidi is #3 so they got put into the other half.

I think this is how they always do the brackets. They won't meet until the semifinals.
1 and 2 get put in opposite halves of the draw as do 2 and 4 but 1 can be in the same half as 3 or 4 but who gets seeded in the same half as 1 can't be in the same half as 2. So 1 and 3 is possible (so that 2 and 4 are in the other half).

Harimoto doesn't have the shot quality of Calderano, those opening loops were absolutely loaded and too hard to counterloop, and Hugo was exploiting the wide FH corner of Aruna real bad unlike Harimoto.

But Ma Long is a real hard opponent to face unfortunately. Hugo would have better chances against Fan Zhendong imo...

Darko can beat Hugo, that is a very different matchup that can flip depending on how fit Darko is. Darko has a very underrated forehand, it is a bit weird to hear that it hs supposedly bad. He is especially strong on the countertopspin and I think it is to put too much stock in one match or matchup to think that Darko is not a complete player.

Hugo - Aruna 4-0
Apparently Aruna's game yesterday was the peak of his abilities...
It is just ther matchup. While Aruna won a game in Singapore in 2021 when they played last, you could see that since Aruna has no offense over the table, Hugo almost always knows he will get thr first opening in the short game. I honestly think Aruna was very satisfied with how far he got. Aruna really has to develop over the table offense to compete with someone like Hugo. Hugo's problem is that his strokes often are so large he cannot deal with rapid and spinny strikes at the table especially on backhand. It will be good to see whether he can fix this vs Ma Long. The main reason he Nets in trouble vs Chinesenis that they play for the first attack better and then force Hugo off the table.

Well you can say that, but the record speaks a different language. While Darko won barely once, he got shit on 3 times by Hugo at the international stage.
On top Darko loses in the Bundesliga on a regular basis against Hugo. I suppose you underestimate the difference between these 2 players.
Darkos fh is way weaker and inconsistent compared with Hugos. Even if you might say Darkso bh is better than Hugos, that is by far not enough to get on his level. Just quicky compare their TTBL matches and you see what i am talking about.

I am thinking that Hugo can beat Ma Long and win the final in this tournament.
