Shibaev is so damn annoying to watch, he keeps shouting all the time ._. This round is full of upsets so far innit? Chen Weixing raped Mattenet, same with Maze and Kreanga, Ovtcharov disposed of Drinkhall and Joo Sehyuk is out. Dang! Looking forward to watching Wang Hao now... missed Zhang Jike's match. Looked like he tanked it from the scores

Timo doesn't look to be in good form, lots of unforced errors and not very tight control of the ball... I think Dimitrij Ovtcharov looks much better, very dominating and powerful and unafraid to go for his shots, I think he has a realistic chance of getting a medal. Zhang Jike looks extremely strong here, his form reminds me of his form during the World Cup 2011, probably going to get the gold medal. Kim Hyok Bong looks really strong, moving very fast with an extremely strong FH. He may cause many problems for Jiang Tianyi. Samsonov looks really weak here, not taking much initiative on the first ball, and really only pushing and blocking along with some weak control topspins. He's probably going to lose 0-4 to such an in-form ZJK.

The quarters probably will be ZJK - Kim Hyok Bong, Ovtcharov - Mizutani, Boll - Chuang, and Oh - Wang Hao, with the semis probably going to be basically Germany vs China on each half. I think the interesting matchups b4 this would be Boll vs Crisan, ZJK vs Kim, Wang Hao vs Gao Ning. There could be upsets happening in these matchups. I really hope to see ZJK vs Kim, it could be one of the best matches in the Olympics.

And what about Maze?

Unfortunately Michael Maze's style doesn't match up well with Mizutani's (the man he's going to meet next). He'll do well vs those players that play a lot of "standard" table tennis, as he has very good serves, spin and rhythm variation and deceptive/unorthodox playing style in general. He would actually have decent chances against players like Wang Hao and Ovtcharov. But Mizutani is as good as him in terms of serving, deception and spin. Also, Maze doesn't recover well from his first power topspin in general, and Mizutani has insane defence which will force him to attack a second, third time which will reduce Maze's chances of winning the point by a lot. I don't think Maze has done well vs Mizutani historically. It'll be a very interesting matchup, with a lot of unorthodox and weird shots in general.

:p But still I agree with your view, I don't expect Maze to win either. It's like he isn't the same anymore after those injuries.
