Kanak has been in great form
his usatt rating hasn't move much if I'm correct
not sure when was the last time he played a usatt rating match in USA
in Germany, he is doing very well at the moment
Agree - he has been on fire and has to be favourite IMO.

Thanks for the great info!

So which is more important, more prestigious, more difficult, more prized, more etc -- the US Nationals or the US Open?
US Open (since 1931), the oldest tournament in the US, it's even older than USATT (since 1933). Way older than US Nationals (since 1976) and never interrupted by WWI and WWII.

US open is one of the biggest and most open tournament in the world of table tennis, if not the most open.

dozens of countries, if not 30+ take part annually.

you often see pros or semi pros show up.

the hundred+ tables is also very rare for tournaments

US national is a USA citizen only tournament, so it is a much smaller scale.

What makes US Open so entertaining for players to fly in to play is the amount of events.
there is age groups and rating levels
so I know few Taiwanese that flew in to play around 6 to 7 events. basically very busy schedule.

no other tournament in the world has so many events for you to enter in.

imo it is a bit crazy to enter in too many, as you won't have time to recover

US Open is, what its name implies, open to every single person. You can fly in from Japan or Germany and participate if you want to. If you don't have an USATT ratings, you can enter any events you want; I am just not sure if you are deemed over-rated for that rating event, you might not be able to advance out of the group into the singles elimination round.
for U level rating category, unrated player can't advanced outside the group
for open category, they can

had 2 players experience that 2 years ago, so that is why I know

There's that and 1st place in Women's Singles is $10,000 USD which is more than what the winner of a WTT Contender would get. There's also lesser prize money for U2600, WD, and XD.
The ratings estimate for some of these players are jokes. Women can be over 2600 people! But I guess Amy's ranking/rating sets a limit on what is reasonable. But everyone and their unborn children and dead ancestors know that Ando is a stronger player than Amy. No way many of these international ladies should be allowed to play u2600, they are probably a threat to the men!

What do you think would be a good solution for this? Maybe established international players can have their rating estimated by some committee using some sort of ELO method using common opponents?

The problem isn't purely accuracy - I believe though I haven't checked in a while that there is a rule that ITTF rankings have to take precedence over local rankings for ITTF/WTT ranking events and I think the US Open has traditionally conferred some ranking points for ITTF. So Amy's ranking does place a limit on where they can rank the players if they want to be internally consistent. Same with Kanak etc. on the other side though it doesn't stick out as much because Kanak is playing well and there are no other huge names outside of national teams.

But if there is betting going on somewhere, put your money on Minami, it is going earn good returns.

Ando and Omoda are representing Micro Motion Table Tennis Academy/微动乒乓学院 (apparently run by Chinese Americans) and they are the only women from JPN playing in U2600 (besides the other 2 men with no affiliation). Did the club sign up for them? I smell a scheme here.

Ando eased up and blew the big lead in G2. Hernandez is getting used to her game.

Ando not fooled by Hernandez' gamesmanship again in G5. She gotta watch out for that in the WS.

Saw some comments on the livestream asking why there's nobody in the stands. It's because the corner view they show on the livestream is pointed opposite where the audience is positioned. Ayano Yo's camera captures the audience as she pans to the right after the Mixed Doubles Finals.

So the U1700 Adult final was just streamed live - the lady who won it registered for the tournament with a rating of 660 and got to a rating of 1409 before the tournament. From my visual estimate, she is easily closer to 2000 at least and hasn't lost a match in any of the events she registered for so far (she is registered from U1000-U1900 Adult) so good luck to anyone who is playing any events she decides to play in. Hopefully she will pull out of a few to give others a chance lol.
