The GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Russian Open is well into the quarter final stages which took place on Friday 14th September. China's London 2012 Olympic delegates (Ma long, Zhang Jike and Wang Hao) did not enter, allowing the younger Chinese hopefuls to take authority on International stage. Young guns Yan An, Fang Bo, Zhou Yu and Xu Xin all successfully progressed through to the quarter finals.

In round 2 of the Men's Singles Russia's Kirill Skachkov and Mikhail Paykov both emerged successful and kept the host nations dreams alive. Kirill (number 3 seed) defeated compatriot Vasily Lakeev in an epic seven set encounter with scores 8-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9, 9-11, 10-12, 11-4.

Alternately, Mikhail Paykov overcome Japan's Ryusuke karube to book a quarter final place. Mikhail was in fine performance and won in four straight games (12-10, 11-7, 11-6, 11-4).

The young Chinese team all took success in the second round of the Men's Singles, Fang Bo who had to qualifiy eliminated Turkey's Bora Vang in four sets (11-7, 11-2, 11-7, 11-5), whilst team mate Zhou Yu overcome Brazil's Gustavo Tsuboi in a close seven games (4-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 11-4). Yan An of China the number 5 seed defeated Chinese colleague Shang Kun in seven sets with scores 11-13, 11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-7.


There is someone we are forgetting, last but not least the number 1 seed of the tournament Xu Xin. The world number 3 progressed to the quarter final stage defeating Alexey Liventsov in four straight sets (11-5, 11-7, 11-4, 15-13) on his path.


Two German's were knocked out in round 2. Serbia's Aleksandar Karakasevic the number 4 seed eliminated Patrick Franziska in seven sets. Japan's 15 year old Yuto Muramatsu defeated Germany's Phillip Floritz using his defensive skills to his advantage.
