I think that Zjk is still a favorite in this since he just got himself plenty of rest not playing the team WC, and this will compensate with his late injury.
Although i'd like to see mattenet continuing with his momentum...

Very true, Zhang Jike struggled in his first match, but he will soon kick start himself. I would love to see Mattenet go far! The support behind him is amazing! It will be fantastic if he can make the semis or more... :)

By the way welcome to the forum, I hope you have a great time here! :)

That's a great group of players. I'm curious if ZJK is back from injury as well. With him and Timo returning from injuries and Wang Hao not in top shape, it might just become a really thrilling event.

From the pictures I have seen of him, his face looks a little sickly and pale.... not his normal self, but still he pulled out a great win against Ovtarchov today.

Sometimes Jike takes a while to get in gear. I have noticed that.

I wonder if thats just a thing with Chinese power players? or maybe just a coincidence. Wang Liqin and Zhang Jike, the two main power players for China both have a noticeable lag period until they really start playing their best. WLQ especially. Or it could just be random coincidence.

Man, I must say, Octarchov is starting to prove me wrong. In the other thread about whether he will truly become the top european player, I didn't have much faith in Ovtarchov's chances but he does seem like he is making a good deal of improvement. Beating Wang Hao earlier, and now taking Zhang Jike to the last set, though I guess technically ZJK does have more trouble against Octarchov than many of the other Chinese players, since both their strengths are backhands.
