What happened with Harimoto and Pistej? I just tuned in. (also from finland ittf live works fine with good quality but not laola)

Pistej got called on his serve and got upset and then told Harimoto to be quiet (according to the commentators).

What Pistej actually did was tell Harimoto to keep quiet because the kid was making noise as Pistej was about to serve. Again, this is something I have only seen one ump call Harimoto for and I don't know why. He grunts audibly when his opponent is about to serve. Does this only annoy people who are losing to him?

Then why so many people saying that we should respect his table tennis and ignore such unsportsmanlike conduct? Pistej is a pro. Very experienced pro. He is bothered by it. Maybe in part because he is losing, but he has lost to many other players without losing it.

I think it annoys many people, me included if I let it get to me.

I don't know how many times I have to say it or what I have to do to get you to understand that I don't find the choing okay.
This is about understanding what is in and out of your control. If you know what you're up against you can mentally prepare yourself (like the commentator said). As an adult professional player I think it's something you should be able to deal with (and most do deal with it).

That being said, don't hate the player, hate the game. Why is this choing allowed? I don't know. But as long as it is, why get annoyed about something you can't control? I'm just gonna appreciate this kids game no matter what, look at his achievements at only 13. Just incredible. Credit where credit is due. I'm gonna respect his skills and prefer that he didn't cho - which I hope he eventually stops with, that's it. I'm not going to get all upset about it and do my best to talk to juniors or whoever else that does it, if given the chance.

Did you see how his opponent changed his behavior in response to Harimoto? Maybe you have played people who do this and have managed to ignore it. In any case, the kid can obviously play. But this noise making is a way of getting to his opponents. Pistej started doing things that against many opponents should have gotten him yellow and red cards. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to ignore this and focus on the kid's skill as if it is all that matters. It is going to take someone who is substantially better than the kid to play him and remain unaffected.

I dont regard it as an excuse cause no one protest for his noisy chooos during the game but during the serve it's not sortman ship . it can be a reason for distracting ..why not

Ruwen Filus lost 2-4 to Fan Zhendong with good fight, lost respectably. As match developed, Fan got better idea on Filus' games and adapted better. Nonetheless Fan must work hard to earn his victory.

I did indeed.
And again, I never said that it should be ignored and I haven't ignored it, quite the opposite actually. It would be a lot more impressive if he didn't cho, sadly no one is perfect. Sadly, choing isn't banned which has allowed for this annoying "strategy" or whatever you want to call it to exist in the game. I found it funny that Pistej started choing as well and probably realised it wasn't getting to Harimoto at all. It's a really bad habit Harimoto has developed which seems to help him stay focused. I really hope it stops as he gets older and continues to improve, which would make him a lot more impressive.

The way forward isn't to ignore it, but to acknowledge it which helps at least me in dealing with it when I have to face something similar and then there are perhaps ways to talk them about it. As long as it is allowed we just have to accept it, deal with it as well as we can and hope to figure out a way to stop them from doing it or encourage it to be banned. Pistejs approach obviously did not help at all. Perhaps more of a focus on what we can do is more effective than getting annoyed (easy said I know ;)).

My last comment on this: he is not just choing and no, he is not just choing to motivate himself. Yes, as long as it is allowed, we have to accept it if we play against it. Bur not complainingeill make more people believe it is okay. It was the complaining about Sharapova and Azarenka that got the WTA to take steps against it. It is even more important given this kid may become the face of TT that we complain loudly so that other kids do not follow his footsteps. I have also found it annoying when some Japanese girls sing during the opponent's pre-serve routine. A pre-serve routine is as sacred as prayer. You should not be allowed to invade someone's space by talking during it.

But the fact that this issue has not even been addressed means that the right people have not heard the complaints. There needs to be a clear statement on how these point celebrations and pre-point machinations should be treated.

Now on to the fantastic match between Hirano and Ding.
