That someone as powerful as Hugo is struggling with Filus's defense shows how interesting table tennis can be. It is a bit sad that he cannot do better in my humble opinion.
Filus played just an amazing match! To beat the young and strong Calderano is simply unbelievable! Now I'm afraid to predict anything in the game of Philus and Lin Yun Ju. There is only one main prediction left - it will be interesting!

Filus came back from 0-3 down to win the last time he played LYJ. I think he will lose this time, but Filus is clearly dangerous when he is attacking.

I also tend to win Lin. Firstly, he will be more rested for their meeting, unlike the no longer young Filus, who will have less time to rest, and secondly, I think he and the coach will carefully analyze past matches with Filus, as well as the match between Filus and Hugo, and draw tactical conclusions, who will not allow Filus to impose his game.
Well, it's all as it should be, and what will be - we'll see

His power was overwhelming Filus' defense, but he had no answer to Filus' attacks and his service receive was pretty poor. I think he has the skills to beat Filus, but he needs better coaching.

Yeah, Filus has become a chopper in name only. Just a bit disappointed at how Hugo manages to take three steps back after taking two forward.

Great win for Filus who really bamboozled Hugo with all the twiddling attacks on the BH.

But it's strange to see Hugo who probably has the most power out of anyone on the tour struggle against choppers.

Isn't it just about serving long, then FH loopkill until the other player gives up? And on the receive I'm not sure why he pushed so much, just chiquita/FH flick and then start FH loopkill pattern again.
This is usually how players with ultra strong FHs play against choppers (for eg Xu Xin, Wang Liqin).

Maybe I'm missing something here.

Hugo just had an off day. He wasn't moving nearly as well as usual, was out of position and missed a bunch of loop kills he usually makes. On the other side, after the first game Filus decided to swing away and he hit the table almost every time even when he was reaching or jammed. Credit where credit is due, Filus was clutch and won the big points. Even so, replay with both at the same level and Hugo wins most of the time.

Wow Liang Jingkun is really becoming a grinder now, he just grinded Wang Chuqin down and withstood all the pressure from Wang Chuqin's stinging topspins, almost always forcing the error. Maybe Wang Chuqin should give chopblocking a go haha, Liang Jingkun doesn't seem to like those a lot...

It's taken a while, but LJK finally seems to be reaching parity with his elite teammates! It has always looked possible with his superb BH and now better fitness allowing his FH to develop to top level as well. Still not the supreme athlete, but much more agile than he used to be. Good to see his persistence paying off.

Am I the only one who is confused that Ruwen is still not banned for his racket-throwing incident?

Nope. I am still wondering too.

To me, it was a serious misconduct. In a rule-based strict country like Germany, I am even more surprised that Filus is allowed to play.

Someone made the case that there have been other players who have tossed rackets without suspensions. He also didn't injure anyone. The biggest issue is likely that the ref didn't give him any red or yellow cards when it actually happened.

I've been only watching TT for 6 months or so, but FZD vs Lin Shindong was the highest level of play I've personally witnessed in real time.

That point to save match point in the 4th game was probably the highest level rally I can remember.

Fan Zhendong just went into his "I am not going to miss" mode and Lin couldn't outlast him in that mode. Fan's consistency is very underrated IMO.
