And as usual table tennis is a sports where you must be first to win 2 or 3 sets with 11 points (or at deuce) and where at the end China wins

Hana blew up a 5-1 and 7-4 lead and at least 3 lucky points to lose 9-11

Riley is still poor at discerning which way the match is heading.
Riley after G4: I'm gonna go with Dima in this G5. Something in the air and look...and also the Olympic results that I mentioned...

Calderano 3-2 Ovtcharov (-4, -2, 9, 5, 7)
G5 41 TO for Ovtcharov, 51, 52, 62, 63, 73, 75 TO for Calderano, 95, 97, 117

Big Comeback from Calderano.
Loses first 2 sets 4-11 and 2-11 and goes down 0-2.

Figures out a way to get back in form, hit more shots and beat Dima who couldnt deal with it.

If Both players are in form, Hugo wins in BO5 almost certainly.
Dimas game doesnt work so well anymore against a Hugo who hits better shots in rallies and has gotten better at service/receive.

Was really hopeful for Dima, but there is always an opponent on the other side.

Very impressive mental fortitude from Sora Matsushima at the end of Game 4 there. Got barely edged at 10-9 match point to get it to deuce. Then lost another point to a net ball. Still managed to win the game and take it to the decider.

Kid only 17 and already somewhat competitive with the WR #1. That's a good sign for the Japan men's team.

2:2 in sets, and 9:9 10:12 in the 5th. "Somewhat competitive"?

zeio's probably calling for Sora's retirement since he lost and is shorter than Miwa despite the what we see in photos.
Not calling for retirement but said something about how he's a false hope for 2028 Olympics. Kinda bizarre to write him off so early but people have their opinions I guess.

I'm just amazed the kid I watched in Bobrow videos just a few years ago when I still hadn't picked up a racket is getting the WR #1 to match point. They really grow up quickly in table tennis.

Is it just my perception or has the way Ma Lin interacts with his players changed? It is almost as if he is asking more questions rather than giving instructions? Note that I do not speak a word of Chinese so I am just making up stories in my head about what is happening based on what I see and maybe nothing has changed and he is doing what he has always done.

I wasn't around at the time. Did people think that Harimoto was likely be a dominant #1 WR? Or did they think he had a chance to be? What was the general concensus?

For me, high hopes would be if that player had even a 10% chance of medaling in the Olympics. Not saying Matsushima is there yet. Just saying that I don't see how someone can say conclusively that he won't be with 4 years left to go. What do you think?
